BrewDog Paradox Speyside (Batch 010)

33 cl, bb 01/01/10. Opaque with a small, sort of lasting foam. Aromas of vanilla, toasted oak and smoky coffee. Flavor is campfire s’mores (chocolate, graham cracker, marshmallow and light smoke), coffee, and a nice little touch of oaked whiskey. Medium-heavy body is very lightly carbonated, watery and finishes woody-roasty dry.

Courtesy Growler. Pours dark brown/black, with a small off white head. Smells a little bready, with good doses of whiskey, caramel, and butterscotch. The flavor is of peaty malt, some caramel and roasty malts also shine through. Toasted bitter chocolate and syrup show up in the nice long finish. A little mellowed, but the heat was definitelt there. Not as big as some of the others Ive tried, but you get more of the flavor showing up in this batch. Pretty tasty.

Bottle. Very still cola body. Nose-cigarette smoke, cola nut, light cherry. Taste-light smoke, slightly on the thin side, nasty aftertaste, perfumey, light smoke, alcohol on the back end. Nicely done.

Batch 010, bb 12/12/09. Dark black with red hints at the edges and a thin quick light tan head. Roasty and thin whiskey smoke aroma. Taste is like a nice smooth whiskey with a slightly roasty bitter malt base. Same as the 005, except it comes out a bit thinner in the body.

(Bottle) Pours black. The aroma is fat malty with a medium roasted character of dark bread, coffee and dark chocolate alongside some mild woody and whisky-like notes. The flavour is medium to heavily roasted with notes of coffee, dark bread and dark chocolate. Whisky and wood is also present. The mouthfeel is fat and soft with a light oily touch. Medium bitter with a medium body.

RBESG08 grand tasting.
Just a tiny sample. The body was of a quite dark brown, not much head. A smokey malty nose. Very good all round smoke that enters the taste as well, that’s sweet and malty again, notes of smoked ham. Tasty.

Bottle, Oddbins. Dark brown colour, brown lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, whisky and caramel. Flavour of roasted malts, dark fruits, whisky. Sweet, syrupy finish. Relatively light bodied. Lacks a good coffee malts and hop punch. Not too impressed.

11.2oz bottle, courtesy of argo0. Thanks, Aaron! Done with comparison to three other Paradox Impys. Pours black, ruby edges, tan head. Aroma is more roasted malt, more vanilla. Flavor is chocolate, less whiskey up front, more in finish, slightly medicinal, smoke.
