Coffee, bittersweet/belgian cocoa, whiskey, oak, hops and overripe dark fruit (esp. plum/prune) in the nose. Boozy. Lots of coffee and whiskey flavor, oak, vanilla, sweet stickiness. Soy. Under carbonated, but probably to be expected. Silky, almost greasy, mouthfeel. Seems to work better than the Islay version that I’ve had, fairly well balanced with an appropriate amount of whiskey and oak. Overall, a terrible value, these beers are over priced to the max (more than $1.00/oz at Whole Foods, yes, I am a sucker). chimplechamp (465), Oslo, Norway
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 30, 2008 I’m pretty sure this is the same as the batch 11 speyside batch, which is what im going to rate. Bottle from oddbins kilmarnock rd in shawlands, pours nearly opaque with a tan head. By far the most sessionable paradox, hides the 10% extremely well probably more than any other beer, chocolate brownie taste with only meer hints of whisky, wood flavour comes in the form of creamy vanilla and i find little hint of grain in this beer. not the best in the line probably the most drinker friendly and sessionable though. juiceisloose (671), Windermere, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 19, 2008 Courtesy growler. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a thin, tan head that bubbles up around the edges. The aroma shows notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and the peat smoked whiskey. The flavor shows a lot of chocolate along with some caramel, vanilla and all blended in with the smoky whiskey flavors. You get a good amount of heat from the whiskey, but there is a lot of flavor to balance it out. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth that goes down very easy with some bitterness and heat on the backend. This one was blended really well which made it an enjoyable experience. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 10, 2008 Pours a dark and translucent mahogany brown color with a small, bubbly, tan colored edge. Minimal, spotty lacing rejoins the body. The aroma shows a chocolate and caramel malt base, with notes of long-since dried dark fruits and a kiss of peaty, smoky whiskey. Flavors reveal more choco-caramel, a good dose of vanilla, molasses, and permeating, woody whiskey. The alcoholic heat runs about average for the Paradox series, which is formidable, to say the least, but I believe that is what they are going for here. The mouthfeel runs a little thin for the style, but is indeed silky smooth and lowly carbonated, as it should be. Overall, a very enjoyable brew. Par for the Paradox course. madmitch76 (645), , Essex, England

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 16, 2008 Transparent dark mahogany with notes of charcoal and spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of dry, toasty caramel and earthy peaty character. Body starts with decent fullness and semi sweet dark maltiness with a smooth, dry, earthy Scotch balance toward a slightly warming finish. Pretty good brew, but not my favorite of the Paradox series. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2009 Bottle at Spuyten Duyvil - thanks to puzzl for sharing - kind of light in color for an imperial, which I remember the base beer being - minimal head - lightly doughy and fruity aroma - not picking up much of the whiskey there - the flavor, however, is quite earthy and peaty - you can taste the roast and sweetness of the base beer, but the whiskey becomes more and more noticeable as the beer warms - it never becomes overpowering, though - just a nice soft peaty character - pretty tasty.
