Commercial Description:
Cask & Bottled;
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself. This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster. Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

Bottle from Bierkonning. Pitch dark black, with a pencil thin white head. Nose of roasted malt and molasses. Taste of vanilla, chocolate and dark roast. Also toffee, coffee and the usual stout suspects. A real delight. Only minor criticism is the very smokey finish, but I imagine some like that. Hats off to this excellent Scottish brewer.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours pitch black with a small tan head and an aroma of mocca, dark chocolate and grain. The taste starts out nice, vanilla, chocolate, malts, something roasted and strong coffee. But after that a more fresh taste comes kicking in and the taste gets fishy. Yuck, I hate that. Starts out nice but I don’t like this beer.

Cask @ Bon Accord. Nice and surprising to have had this one in Bon Accord, probably the first IS I encountered there! Hopefully there will be more coming along. Black colour, creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, sweet tarts and coffee. Flavour of bitter coffee, roasted malts and chocolate. Slightly bitter finish.

330 ml bottle. Deep, dark brown colour, thin light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate and a whiff of dark fruits. Strongly roasted, a little burnt flavour with coffee and plenty of chocolate. Dry, ashy bitter finish. Smooth, oily, full-bodied, low carbonation. A very enjoyable stout.

Dark brown with a khaki colored head. Kelpie tobacco aroma with dusty black malts. Smooth medium body. Great flavors of dry, roasty malts with kelp, coffee, and cocoa. Starts dry and finishes lightly sweet. Nice stout.

330 ml bottle. Finland. Almost black with small tan head. Roasted, coffee, nuts aroma. Flavour is more liquorice than coffee and roasted malts. Some alcohol as well. Mouthfeel is nice, thick and smooth.

Black color with limited carbonation. Aroma of dates and cola. Very chewy and thick, the high octane makes this a slow sipper. Roasted coffee maltiness with solid hoppy kick at the end.

3/11/2009: Rip Tide "twisted merciless stout" is both the second Brew Dog beer I have had tonight or at any time and I must say that I am quite impressed with their offerings. They are full of flavor and life, but not overly high on the alcohol. The packaging is simple and modest, yet stylish and intriguing enough to draw one in. I really like the plays on characteristics going on in this particular beer. The black raspberry aroma is paired so nicely with the flavor of dark chocolate-covered liquor-filled cherries. Other complexities layered on top of that include heavily caramelized and roasted maltiness along with a smoky finish that is slightly dry. The smokiness is really doing it for me. So is the near black liquid and attractive frothy beige moustache-forming beige head! This is a rich and creamy, full-bodied beer that is super good!

1 Pint, 6.4 Fluid Ounce bottle (Batch 001; Best before 03/03/09; Alc. 8% by Vol) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #232 for this beer.
