Commercial Description:
Cask & Bottled;
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself. This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster. Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

33cl bottle, Alko. Batch 067. 03/03/11. Pours almost black color with a thin to no beige head. Aroma is of roasted malt. Flavor is liquorice with chocolate and roasted malt. Smooth palate, very drinkable. Excellent Stout.

Pours an unlively dark reddish-brown with no head or apparent carbonation. On second thought, there is a slight carbonation to the upper half, but that’s it. Aroma is of roasted sweet malt, not much else. Pretty straightforward. Again, all I’m getting is just a plain malt in the flavor, maybe just a barely-perceptible hoppiness toward the end, but that could just as easily be my wishful imagination as I search for more complexity or flavor here. Slight chocolate too, I suppose. The mouthfeel is watery and dead, especially for the style. This is my first BrewDog beer, and I was really expecting to be blown away, considering their good reputation here on RB. But I wasn’t. Overall, fair plus.

Dark black pour with a dark tan head. Roasted malt aroma with a hint of sweetness to it. Taste is roasted malt, burnt flavor, little oily, some chocolate sweetness. Leaves a nice slightly burnt roasted malt flavor in your mouth. Sporatic lacing.

a tad oily on the tongue, the beer has a lot of smoke with a BBQ overtone feel to it. the deep taste of smoke and slight coffee makes goes well with southern cooking. Yummy!!

The aroma is smokey, sweet, chocolaty, malty, and coffee like. The appearance is dark red brown with no head. The flavor is like the aroma and quite flat. The palate is thin due to the flat nature of the beer. Overall this a a decent beer but could be better if it wasn’t flat.

Dark brown, but nowhere near black, with a very big tanned head that settles into a nice lid of lacings. The smell is quite weak considering the style, with mild aromas of roasted malts, caramel, wood and coffee. Notes of brown sugar and chocolate. The taste is on the sweet side, to say the least. Lots of sweet caramel/brown sugar flavors, some gentle notes of roasted malts and chocolate. Hints of dark fruits. The finish has some bitterness to it, notes of alcohol and a pleasant taste of licorice. Overall, not impressive. It lacks complexity and balance. Medium to full body, rather smooth. A bit sticky texture due to the sweetness. Being an imperial stout, this one is underwhelming. It’s very sweet and the caramel flavors almost overpowers the roasted character. It doesn’t taste bad, it’s just boring and it doesn’t deliver what I expect from a good imperial stout. Serving type: on-tap (Copy of old Beer Advocate review)
