The aroma is strongly roasted and the flavour is very strongly syrupy and roasted. Overall an average roasted and syrupy beer. ogivlado (3070), Zagreb, Croatia

Almost black with reddish glare, small tan head, notes of chocolate and cocoa in the nose. Roasted coffee, chocolate and some hops with notes of dark fruits. Alcohol is well hidden. Bitter finish and pleasant long-lasting aftertaste. Enjoyable stout. hughie (3063), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2008 Cask at Coventry Beer Festival 08. Very dark brown, almost black. Small brown head. Despite the opinions of others, I think the aroma is wonderful; ginger cake, alcohol and dates. Smooth oily taste has a sort of iced coffee tang, and soon plunges into a deep, slightly brutal hoppiness. Yes, the aroma is the stand-out feature. Jukkabro (3025), Tampere, Finland
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 19, 2009 Near black colored with red hints. Medium sized beige head. Sweet licorice-roasted and chocolaty aroma, salty note also comes up. Medium to full bodied, smooth palate. Flavor is more roasted with licorice still dominating, biting hops in aftertaste with thin alcohol still. Somehow unbalanced flavor with too strong dryness after smooth palated start. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 24, 2008 Bottle bought today at Nikki’s Liquors in Providence RI, a little pricey at $12 but its the first time I’ve seen any brew dog in the US for sale. Poured into a port glass. Pours dark brown/black with a big nice 2 finger tanish head. Nose is sweet and dry and much like a dry stout not so much the nose of any imperial stout I recognize. Taste is certainly bigger, really a big big big malty coffee burnt taste. Its rather good, but certainly different and somewhat funky fresh. I like it, I’m wondering how the IPAs are. Good beer. presario (2982), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Mar 3, 2008 12oz bottle. Spidery loose head. Very dark beer. Thin alcohol, molasses and soy aroma. Body like silk. A drinkable IS but not a lot of depth. Smooth flavour of alcohol, molasses, soy and ginger cookies. larsga (2969), Oslo, Norway

Roasty rye grain aroma with chocolatey milky notes. Sweet-dry (mostly sweet) grainy roasty chocolate taste, quite dense, with peppery hop notes. Broad, full mouthfeel, with some alcohol heat. Dry burnt alcoholic chocolate aftertaste. Very good! (0.33l bottle, Olutkellari, Helsinki.) JK (2955), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2009 It didn’t pick up on the imperial aspect of this stout. It reminded me of a mild with the smooh malt body. In the English style, with low carbonation and a fairly thick palate. Chocolate, and some earth. Only a hint of smoke.
