| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 16, 2009 22.4 oz. bottle. Pours black with a moderate tan head that lasted through two-thirds of the glass and left an almost solid sheet of foam on the glass. Very pleasant aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and prunes. The roasted malt is more dominant in the flavor, while the chocolate takes a step back. A bit of prune in the flavor as well along with a few notes of tobacco. Moderate bitterness. Medium-full bodied. Enjoyable. altonbrownd (1960), Amsterdam, Netherlands
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2009 Bottle from Bierkonning. Pitch dark black, with a pencil thin white head. Nose of roasted malt and molasses. Taste of vanilla, chocolate and dark roast. Also toffee, coffee and the usual stout suspects. A real delight. Only minor criticism is the very smokey finish, but I imagine some like that. Hats off to this excellent Scottish brewer. scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 2, 2008 Tasting - Perfect Pour. Dark brownish black, tan creamy head. Soft roasted vanilla coffee nose rides undercurrents of lightly smoked cocoa. Dried dark currants and coffee tones round with hints of vanilla and dark chocolate. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Decent, but not in the world class league... travita (1952), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Large bottle. Pours amber-hued black with fizzy tan head. Aroma is acidic coffee, earth, a little bit of raw licorice, and some wood. Flavor is roasty bitterness, some harsh coffee and wood tones. Very dry ashiness is all over, with a mild chocolate undercurrent. Decent, but a little bit weird. I enjoy the surprising dryness, But it really seems like it’s lacking something.
