Commercial Description:
Cask & Bottled;
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself. This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster. Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

Aroma is Chocolate and Caramel. Appearance is jet black with a large creamy head. Taste is alcohol, chocolate, roasted malt and the malt hangs arounbd the palate. This is one of my favourite Stouts, pity BD seems to want to discontinue it. Not interesting enough gents?

0.33 l bottle with a modern-styled label design. After pouring, a stout-typical thin and beige coloured head remains on the top of the stuff. Colour is a deep, non-transparent black and there’s naturally no sparkling in it. Roasty, and coffeebeans-like impressions are hitting the nose. Taste is sharpy, body’s full and oily. Flavour is like previous added with some kind of bitter chocolate, too. Finish is hoppy, dry and lasts lomg in the mouth. Nice stout for one glass in the evening.

Bottle. Dark ruby, almost black, with only a small pale head that dissipates quickly. There are strong notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee on the nose with lesser hints of lavender. It is almost creamy on the palate without being thick or overly dense. The flavour is less agressive than the nose (or the packaging) would suggest-it is almost graceful without being dainty.

Deep brown body with a fine creamy beige head what never disappears fully. Fine aroma opens with roasted grains and coffee, after a while comes some fine spicies like vanilla, dark chocolate and a moderated hop. Rich body and oily texture, fine roasted grains and dark chocolate in the flavor. Mild fruitiness and bitterness with a light caramel and dark chocolate. Long roasted aftertaste. Nice stout!!!

Cask at RnH. Near black with a beige head. Roasted malty aroma, with tar and molasses. The flavor has a pretty distinct smoky note, almost like burlap, as well as coffee and roasted malt. Not very subtle, but quite tasty.

Bottled, bbe 01/2009. Dark brown to black, lacing tanned head. Nose is burned, slightly syrupy and woody, piney hops. A bit like Koff porter with more hops. Full and intensive flavor, strong liquorice, burned malt and piney hops. Sweetish, but finishes drier with grapefruity bitterness. Medium to full bodied, oily palate. Intensive and well hopped, but that liquorice gets maybe a bit too overpowering sometimes.

From bottle. DLM Friday tasting. Pours dark brown with small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor continues with chocolate and coffee. Very rich mouthfeel. Alcohol is present but still a very good effort.
