PilsnerPeter (1473), Flushing, New York, USA Jun 22, 2008 Bottle: Amber brown pour with a bubbly tan head. (This is Imperial?) Soft malty aroma. Dark grains, milky chocolate and a hint of coffee roast. Light body. Mildly roasted flavor with a soft malt presence. Hint of coffee, sour dough and a mild chocolate finish. Not bad, but also not an Imperial Stout.
JohnnyJ (669), Reno, Nevada, USA Oct 6, 2008 Pours a dark brown with small tan head. Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, smoked bacon, coffee, small notes of dark fruit, and a bitter hoppy finish. Pretty decent, and slightly different imp stout. trokini (874), San Diego, California, USA Oct 6, 2008 Pours dark brown, with a tan ring of bubbles for a head. Rich coffee and chocolate, roasted oats, and toffee. More sweet than bitter in the taste. Chocolate and coffe a prevalent, as is the roasty grain and malt, some smoke, caramel, and dark fruit. I liked how the beer avoided the soy sauce taste that can pop up with other Imperials. Excellent. Svesse (1811), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 5, 2008 (Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 27 Sep 2008) Very dark brown colour with brief, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of coffee, chocolate and liquorice. Roasted, malty taste with dark bitter chooclate, coffee, liquorice and a nice cocoa bitterness in the finish. Fairly sweet, slightly above medium body. The last sentence of the commercial description puts it quite well. Very nice beer. blutt59 (776), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 3, 2008 bottle, thanks to bu11zeye, coca cola colored body, coffee colored head, roasted coffee flavors with cocoa and dark fruits, finish is very dry nhorween (528), New York, New York, USA Sep 29, 2008 Bottle. Opaque and coffee colored around the edges with an off white head. Outwardly subdued (that’s got to be an oxymoron) hop and chocolate profile. Roasty and quite smoky, cinnamon. Not your typical IS aroma. Belgian cocoa, nicely balanced. Flavor is more typical - chocolatey, hops more apparent, chalky and tannic finish. Good smoke, bitter finish. Beefy palate, but thin at the end. Big finish. I like it. It’s a slightly different angle.
