Commercial Description:
Cask & Bottled;
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself. This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster. Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

On cask at The Pub in Naples, FL. Black color. Aroma of teriyaki and malty-sweetness. Subtle caramel and licorice, great balance in flavors. Malty yet yeasty. Mild carbonation, full body. Quite dark, yet easy to drink. Incredibly well-balanced. Excellent.

Brewdog Rip Tide 12/12/09 (bomber, says best before 9/9/09. Pours dark brown-purple, with almost no head. Aroma of raisins, peat, dark chocolate and a touch of sweet molasses. Body is medium and mild carbonation, a bit thin for the style. Flavor can be described simply as dark chocolate with an earthy, raisin-infused element. Not much roasts or coffee here. I’m not really impressed by this one. And this is the second Brewdog beer I’ve felt the same about (Punk IPA being the other). Lacks the body, complexity, and, well heck, the alcohol, of my favorite bold Impy Stouts.) 3.6.

Deep brown, almost black. Almost no head at all. Delicious combination of roasted malt, raisin, and dried fruit aromas and flavors.

Bomber drink by 12.12.09, so I’m a week under the wire. Very dark, some red, as often is the case with high ABV brews, not a great head. Chocolate/roast aroma. The taste is as much milk chocolate as dark, and the roastiness is subtle. Some licorice, some finishing hops. Not all that thick (they use sugar, which thins it out). Dry finish.

One pint 6.4 oz bottle purchased from Spirits RB. Pours a thin dark black with a small white soapy head, not attractive in any means. Aroma was very weak and seemed to be a stout light. Notes of weak charcoal, burnt malts, cola and black olive juice. The body was thin and watery and closing in on becoming flat, ugh. The flavor was about as good, or bad, as the aroma with some weak cola, soy, tobacco leaves and roasted malts. Wow.......either I got the worst bottle of Riptide ever made or this is of the most overpriced and overrated beers I have ever had.

0.33 l bottle with a modern-styled label design. After pouring, a stout-typical thin and beige coloured head remains on the top of the stuff. Colour is a deep, non-transparent black and there’s naturally no sparkling in it. Roasty, and coffeebeans-like impressions are hitting the nose. Taste is sharpy, body’s full and oily. Flavour is like previous added with some kind of bitter chocolate, too. Finish is hoppy, dry and lasts lomg in the mouth. Nice stout for one glass in the evening.

No real head to speak of. Just a slight foamy ring around the glass. Aroma is also slight, mostly of chocolate malts. Body the color of cola Flavors clearly on the malt side of the spectrum with chocolate and roasted malts the most prevalent. Body is not heavy like a typical imperial stout. This will be a good one to remember when I want to serve an imperial stout to my friends, but are affraid they’ll freak out over something heavy and syrupy.
