Commercial Description:
What does it mean? Yes, what indeed does it all mean. Meaning of course is elusive and illusive. It can’t or shouldn’t be found on the bottle. Should it? Yet what if it was? Would you begin to look for pearls of wisdom or life direction on a beer label.Perhaps it has been there all along.Since meaning is a mear illusion, perhaps we shouldn’t let it have any influence on our destiny. This particular beer refused to succummb to the illusion of meaning or allow capricious parameters to have any influence on its own fermented fate. Are you even asking the right question? Are you feeling frustrated in the emptyness? If so that could be because craig got to this beer before you, and thus theres a reason for that emptyness. Its empty. And if so perhaps there indeed is not any meaning for you here after all. Style over Substance , or Substance over the scriptures of Style? The latter thank you very much. Twice.

Definitely a melding of styles. Pours a translucent, black with a thin tan head. Looks like a schwarzbier. Aroma smells like a mild porter. Sweet, toasty, coffee, etc. Flavor is completely different: hops citrus, pine. Finish is sweet, a little watery. Weird.

Bottle. Pours black with slight reddish tint around the edges. Smallish tan head that leaves fine lacing as it falls away. Aroma are really nice with pine resiny hops, some toffeee, smoked malt and a little dark fruit. Initially flavours are quite sweet with toffee and caramel. These are followed by the smoked malt and citrus / resiny pine. Finish is quite bitter though nicely balanced with the sweet - smoky malt flavours. Overall a really good beer.

Quite enjoyed this, all the goodness of a double IPA with the added bonus of burnished, smokey finish. Relatively easy drinking too, mmmmm!

I picked up a bottle with a label covered with typical Stone BS ramblings on it from the Downers Grove, IL, Binny’s Beverage Depot. It poured a dark brown body, opaque in the center and clear around the edges, with a dinkus bubbly tan head. The nose had a pungent, earthy, piney hop bitterness over some dark bittersweet chocolate and some squashed raisins. The flavor added a smokiness and some clarity to the sharp pine and citrus flavors, closing on a dirty bitter note. Enjoyable, in an odd way.

(Gravicask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 28 Nov 2009) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dark fruit, raisins and hoppy notes of pine needles, resin and grapefruit. Roasted, malty, hoppy taste with notes of grapefruit, resin, pine needles, dark chocolate and coffee. Generous piney, citrussy bitterness in the finish. Full body, fairly sweet. As expected from two of the more adventurous brewers this is a fairly uncompromising beer, very complex and in good balance. Very tasty. Lovely beer!

Like a medium bodied stout mixed with a medium bodied IPA. Black with decent head. Stronger malt up front then finishes nice and hoppy.

Bottle at Ørsted, Copenhagen
The color is almost black. The aroma mixes roasted malt and alpine cheese. Good chocolate flavor, good body, roasted malts; strong bitterness. Not much complexity, but good balance and power.

12oz bottle, batch #352, from bruisin’ ales. pours a silky black with a half-inch, dark khaki head and great lacing. aroma is wonderful and nicely complex with the typical trademark Stone hop notes of fresh grapefruit, orange peel, wet grass, and pine backed by nutty, roasted malts, dark chocolate, and spicy black pepper with a lovely hint of smoke. flavor is great as well with dry, roasted coffee, toasted nutty malts, bitter dark chocolate, and hints of sweet caramel backed by mellow, bitter, citrus and pine hop notes that are again, typical stone. palate is medium bodied with soft carbonationg and a long, bitter, roasty and citrusy finish. overall, another great collaborative brew from Stone and BrewDog.
