Commercial Description:
Cask & Bottled;
A historically accurate beer based on the recipe devised on the 8th of February 2007. Recreated using the finest coloured malts which provide the complex sweet malt character which initially arouses the senses. Like a fine cheese cake the biscuit base has a smooth and creamy layer that both satisfies and entices. Culminating with a delicate fruit topping of blackcurrant and tinges of citrus to refresh the participant, complimented fully by the crisp dry bitter finish.

330 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. JA23/09.

App.: Clear amber with a loose, rocky light tan froth. Aroma: Strong earthy caramel, slightly funky, some burnt sugar, other assorted malt aromas. Palate: Medium body, fairly sparse and soft carbonation. Flav.: Caramel that is much less earthy, more fruity, still very malty with a touch of peppery, resinous hops; off-dry with some bitterness.

Straight forward, drinkable.

660 ml, bb 08/08/09. Hazy orange-copper with a small ring of bubbles. Aroma is toast, earthy tea leaf and caramel with some muted orange and oak. Flavor is orange-caramel and biscuit, toned down with some salty oak and earthy leaf. Near-medium body is hardly carbonated, watery-thin, and well-dried by the salt and wood flavors.

Bottled, 330ml from Bellingers Garage, Grove, Oxon. Red amber with white head. Probably pretty accurate to style, but heavily sharply malted beer, biscuity, caramel malts, some pinewood with just a hint of tangy citrus in the finish. Toasty notes throughout the beer, a style that I struggle to love, but made drinkable in this case.

Appearance: Pours a clear, orangey-amber body (like a cup of tea) with a small, bubbly, white head. Smell: Toasty malts strike the nostrils with a hint or three or caramel candy. Notes of bitter orange peel, stone fruit, and fresh cedar planks (which rounds out in the herbal character of the taste). Taste: Toasted, biscuity maltiness with a fair amount of sugary caramel sweetness. Fairly fruity, too, tasting of apricots with just a touch of orangey citrus. Spicy, particularly herbal hops (again, like a cup of tea) with a restrained bitterness. The sweet toasty malts eventually drop out right at the end for a relatively dry finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-low carbonation. Drinkability: A soft, easily drinkable, just barely hop-forward brew that, as I snatched it up for $1.49 a bottle, served me well on a Friday night.

660ml bottle, Batch 001, best before 01/06/09. Slightly hazy, copper/amber color. Thin rocky white head. Looks like homebrew. Fruity aroma of golden raisins, caramel malt, and light citron zest. Flavor is very biscuity, carmel malt. Finishes watery with a lingering, very dry bitterness. Very basic in body, not bad. Sessionable. Cheers

Bottle, 5%. Weak caramelly aroma. Clear amber colour. Very small head. The flavour starts off with a slightly rough bitterness, turns caramelly and then back to bitter. There is a touch of spicy hops in the finish.

Bottle (330ml). Shared by blankboy with me and garthicus. Clear light amber with a smallish white head. Dry, slightly alcoholic, leafy - bitter. Taste - generic bitterness (like hop oil) - weak malt profile, mostly just bitterness - but I kind of like that - not a wimpy amber that’s for sure. Average body, incredibly astringent, long, long bitter finish. A tad unbalanced (hah - massively unbalanced) - but a real treat.
