Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of roasted malt and soy sauce as well as some notes of alcohol and wood. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of roasted malt and alcohol as well as notes of soy sauce and wood, leading to a dry alcoholic and roasted finish. The alcohol tickles the tongue.

Black with an off white head. Chocolate coffee slight smoke, sweet notes some alcohol. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a tanned head. Wow such fantastic aromatics! Slightly burnt malt, berries, flowers, chocolate, smoke. Flavour and mouthfeel is a letdown, feels a little confused all round and a touch thin on the palate as well. The finish is sweet and somewhat cloying. It’s still a solid beer from these guys.

Hmmmm...a tough one. Lovely big nose. Lots of dark fruit jumps out at you. In the mouth it’s a little thin for the style. Still quite good though lots of the jasmine, fruits and chocolate. The oak chips don’t really make themselves known to me. Very good but not quite there. Still It’s the best brewdog yet for me. Thanks Nate!

Very dark brown, almost black, but the liquid seems clear. A very small brown head with large bubbles settles quickly into a minimal ring around the edges of the glass. A very harmonious smell. Lots of roasted and sweet malts, however the burnt aromas are rather far away. Loads of dark chocolate. Some licorice, dark fruits, vanilla and wood. The smell has also a freshness to it, like a flower garden. The taste is also very harmonious and soft around the edges. Nothing seems really out of place. Sweet and roasted malt dominate, but it is not as hardly roasted as in some other big imperial stouts. Lots of fruity sweetness and chocolate. Upon swallowing, things really start to happen; a mild acidic roastiness, huge amounts of salt licorice, leather, a decent bitterness, charcoal and floral freshness. The salty flavors linger on for what seems to be an eternity together with very hot and almost boozy alcohol. And again, that floral freshness that I seem to pick up both in the smell and mouth reappears towards the end (might this be the jasmines?). Rather full-bodied, but still not as big as I had hoped for. Gentle carbonation with tiny bubbles. The texture is beyond velvety smooth, absolutely incredible. A very good imperial stout. Great balance and lots of character. I really liked the freshness of it. A little more complexity might have been good, but other than that it’s really good. The smooth texture is great. Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Fluffy quickly diminshing brown head. Aroma of chocolate, roast, wood, ripe fruits and light spice. Flavour is chocolaty, has liqourice, roast, herbs and some fruity and coffeish notes. Medium to full bodied. Dry. Has a roasted bitterness in the end.

DØE Valby 09. Pours black with no head. Aroma is lots of roasted malt, coffee and light chocolate. Flavour is earthy, light roasted malt, chocolate and coffee.
