| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 12, 2009 Bottle. Pours very dark ruby, almost black, with a small bubbly tan head that doesn’t last long. Aroma has some slight sweetness and notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, licorice and cherry. Flavour is not so sweet but is otherwise quite similar, particularly the malt, and licorice. Medium bodied with minimal carbonation and a nice, mild bitter finish. Overall a very good beer and an interesting interpretation of the style. Sammy (4019), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Leaves lace spidering. Slightly roasty, slightly lagerish aroma. Medium mouthfeel. Understated carbonation, which is good. A little mollasses, only slightly sourish. A little drying. Decent interpretation of style. jerc (3945), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Pours dark brown with a very small head.
Aroma is very rich with sweet roasted malt showing dark chocolate, toast, and espresso.
Flavours are similarly rich, but not as sweet, and include more espresso and burnt toast, followed by a lingering roasty finish with a prominent, but not sharp, bitterness.
Light body and carbonation work well with the clean lager flavours. madquacker (721), Canberra ACT, Australia
