BuckNaked (1189), Tempe, Arizona, USA Sep 1, 2006 Draft at Brewer’s Alley(sampled 1 week prior to the anniversary): Clear brown colored body with a small tan head. The aroma is lightly sweet caramel, mildly sweet chocolate, with some hints of hops in there. Taste is mildly sweet caramel, toast, light roasted malts, though the roasted flavors come through very softly, surprisingly bitter though not very hoppy in taste. LIght bodied, medium carbonated, slightly syrupy at times. hopscotch (4379), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 27, 2006 Draft... Clear, mahogany ale with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Good retention. The nose is somewhat chocolaty and hoppy with a few interesting esters and phenols and a lesser note of vanilla. The flavor is chocolaty as well and hopped up a good bit. Appropriately malty. Leans just a hair on the bitter side of balance. Medium-bodied with modest carbonation. Short, chocolaty, lightly bitter finish. This concoction could have been a holy mess considering all that was thrown into the boil and fermentation tank. Tom did a good job whipping up a challenging, low gravity style. No alcohol to hide the flaws; not many flaws to hide. An American brown ale, I would say. Tasty and refreshing on a warm, humid summer evening. Happy Birthday Brewers Alley!
