Commercial Description:
To celebrate the 375th anniversary of Maryland’s founding at St Mary’s City, Brewers Alley offers you a ’taste of the colony’ with our 1634 Ale. Crafted with molasses, malted rye and malted wheat, then adding caraway spice for flavor, we hope to evoke the rustic flavor of beer enjoyed by Lord Baltimore’s adventurers.

This beer pours dark amber/lighter brown. Very nice flavor and body. I actually enjoyed this one quite alot. The gem of my weekend in Maryland.

An interesting historical brew, based on old recipes from colonial Maryland. Nice mahogany pour. Nose is floral and malty, with a little toast too. Mild, toasted rye flavor with a bit of sweetness and a dry finish. Overall feel is like a fairly light, but still tasty amber. An unusual and enjoyable brew.

Bottle - The Wine Source. Dark copper, thick lightly tanned head. Soft molasses and spicy rye notes warm to light swirls of earthy caramel. Soft bitter rye and spice flavors balance well on a touch of toffee grains and earth. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, lightly spiced finish. Well executed...

12oz bottle. Brown-amber color with a minimal, soapy head. Quite smooth and malty, with a decide Rye touch. A medium bodied session brown ale, some light balanced crispness mid-sip. Some mild caramel and toffee notes as well. Easy drinker, pretty good.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep amber with a foamy off-white head. The head is pretty quick to disappear. The nose is sweet with notes of molasses, rye, wheat, and spice. Medium carbonation with a medium-light, slightly dry mouthfeel. Caramel, molasses, rye, and an ususual note that I assume is affected by the caraway on the palate. Medium-short finish with a little molasses hanging around. Malty yet light and dry. It isn’t too complex, but it is fairly enjoyable.

Bottle courtesy of Tim. Pours a mahogany with a small light tan head. Aroma of bread dough, biscuits, malt and rye. Taste of rye and bread dough, malt and light floral hops.

For all the atypical ingredients the beer is well integrated and not over the top. Drinkable with a hearty center and a decent spiciness.

Mahogany appearance with a small beige head and light lacing. Malty, molassas infused aroma. Lightly spiced, moderately sweet taste with rye prominent in its grain bill. Medium bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel. Durable finish that avoided becoming too cloying.
