egajdzis (2879), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 11, 2004 Poured dark brown with a tan sticky head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast coffee, anise, light chocolate and fig aroma. Light roast, some chocolate, medicinal, almost cherry cough syrup taste. Thin. hopscotch (4379), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Sep 8, 2004 Pitch black ale. Opaque, cola color when held up to very bright light. Small, creamy, off-white head. Minimal lacing. Notes of espresso, dark chocolate and black strap molasses/licorice in the nose. Charred flowers. Well-bittered, like Storm King or Dark Lord, but the body is much lighter and the ABV is much lower. Still, big props for being compared to those two wonderful beers. Medium to full-bodied with an astringent mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, dry, burnt, bitter finish. Too thin for the style, but a terrific beer nonetheless.
