This style originated in the area of Cologne, Germany. It exhibits the more desirable features of both ales and lagers. Our Kolsch is pale gold with light body and a slightly dry palate. It has a mild bitterness and delicate hop aroma. This beer is a clean and pleasant thirst quencher, which earned a Bronze Medal at the 1998 Great American Beer Festival. 4.6 - 5.0% alcohol, by volume

pours pale yellow with some brown hues and a small white head. sweet grainy aroma combines with some fruit, grass, light yeast and floral. the flavor shares the same qualities... with the addition earthy hops and spice on the finish. there’s a bit of grass, grain and yeast in the aftertaste but that quickly disappears and leaves a clean palate. good easy drinker with some body and richness to it.

I drink this quite often at Brewers Alley. It is one of my favorites of theirs.

Thanks to Ken for this one. Clear gold body. Aroma is dusty, some lemon rind. Flavor is honey, almost imperceptible, watery.

12oz bottle. Pours a bright, clear golden-orange color; thin white head with patchy lacing. Light sugar, yellow fruits, and grains in the aroma; some cereal; kind of bland. Medium mouthfeel: chewy wet malts, toasty grains, and cereal; decent crispness and mineral bitterness; not exceedingly dense or strong hop character, but drinkable. Medium finish: cereal and toasty grains.

Clear, pale gold appearance with a small white head and little lacing. Straw-like nose was quickly replaced by a sweet malty aroma. Mild, moderately sweet, low keyed hop taste. Light bodied, slightly bitter mouthfeel with no off flavors

Pour from bottle, typical clear golden color, steady carbonation, head a little less than impressive given the fresh tap pours that are normally excellent in this style. The aroma was grainy, some fruit. The flavor followed with an added grassy hop touch in the finish. Amazingly fresh tasting Koelsch for a bottle, probably my best stateside example in a bottle.

12oz bottle. Clear yelllow with a somewhat clingy white head. Decent enough nose of clean, fresh yeast esters - sharp and fluffy at the same time. Decently hopped nose with a base malt scent that is very clean and inoffensive. Crisp, fresh and lively flavor up front, a but destroyed by an unavoidable flavor of notebook paper and stale grains. The palate is very slick and wet and it ends so quickly, but I guess the light grassy notes in the finish make up for it somewhat, but there’s something not exactly right with the thickness and finish.
