Commercial Description:
This style originated in the area of Cologne, Germany. It exhibits the more desirable features of both ales and lagers. Our Kolsch is pale gold with light body and a slightly dry palate. It has a mild bitterness and delicate hop aroma. This beer is a clean and pleasant thirst quencher, which earned a Bronze Medal at the 1998 Great American Beer Festival. 4.6 - 5.0% alcohol, by volume

Draft at the brewpub, July 2006. A slightly hazy light yellow beer with only a rim of white head. The aroma is quite light, but very fresh with notes of citrus. The flavor is a bit too malty to begin with (for the style that is), but then the lemon comes along, and leads to a dry slightly wheat end. The mouthfeel is quite sparkling due to high carbonation. I’d like it more refreshing.

Tart hoppy aroma. Solid German hoppiness with good malt support. Tastes more like a Helles than a Kolsch.

on tap-pours a thin white head and yellow color. Aroma is sweet grain-honey, yeast-with some home brewer character? Taste is sweet grain-honey, yeast-with some home brewer character?, balanced with continental (Hallertau) spicy/herbal hops.

On tap at the brewpub on 1/19/07: Pours a clear bright golden with a nicely-lacing frothy white head. Mild, lightly pale malty aroma has some fruity esters. Body starts fairly malty for the style with a good amount of European bittering hops. Nicely-balanced and very drinkable.

This beer rocks. The aroma is of malt and just-baked sugar cookies. It has a dark golden hue and the flavor screams MALT MALT MALT. Not sweet, perfectly-mildy hopped. The finish is a touch complex in that it is a bit fizzy yet ends up silky (great mouthfeel) one second later. Awesome beer.

Courtesy of beachbum25. Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells of pilsner malt, some fruit. Tastes of sweet malt, some spice, touches of bitterness. Enjoyable.

12oz bottle. Clear yelllow with a somewhat clingy white head. Decent enough nose of clean, fresh yeast esters - sharp and fluffy at the same time. Decently hopped nose with a base malt scent that is very clean and inoffensive. Crisp, fresh and lively flavor up front, a but destroyed by an unavoidable flavor of notebook paper and stale grains. The palate is very slick and wet and it ends so quickly, but I guess the light grassy notes in the finish make up for it somewhat, but there’s something not exactly right with the thickness and finish.

Draught, at the brewpub, July 2006. Pale gold colour. Clean and fresh but with a touch of sweetness. Nothing too distinctive here, but a pretty decent brewpub Kolsch. Certainly better than plenty of others I tried on this trip.
