Derek881 (295), Frederick, Maryland, USA May 9, 2008 A quality local beer that I had on draft at the brewery. The beer has a dense fruity aroma, with a raisiny scent, a blend of caramel malt, and some earthy hops for balance. It has a deep, dark, red-amber color, with a thinner, foamy, off-white head that has short retention. The flavor is solid, a deep sweetness paired with some bitter hops to match. Wet, and a tad watery on the palate, with below average carbonation, but still manages to maintain a decent mouthfeel. One of the better beers at Brewer’s Alley, a great spring treat! Mirage52 (109), New Market, Maryland, USA May 15, 2006 On tap at the MBF. Never really had a malty beer. I’m used to the lightly hopped regular stuff. This wasn’t bad. Poured a semi-dark golden brown with a thick head. The taste was smooth, slightly sweet. You could taste the alcohol. I used to be scared of hoppy aftertastes, but while drinking this beer I have come to appreciate them more. Not that this beer was bad, it is definitely a welcome change from the standard fare. ruggedman (415), Portland, Maine, USA Jul 2, 2004 Updated: Jun 6, 2005On my vacation to Maryland I found this nice little brewpub and tried a few of the beers there. The maiboch was my favorite especially when you have it with sweet potato french fries. I cant wait to go down to MD again now. hopscotch (4379), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 17, 2003 Updated: May 5, 2005Beautiful, crystal clear mohogany lager.
Very small, quickly diminishing, creamy, enamel head. The aroma is malty with vineous notes, port, caramel and citrus fruit. Great, well-balanced flavor! Raisins, red wine, caramel, buttermilk and citrus fruit. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation.
Long, lightly bitter, astringent, dry finish with a shot of clover at the conclusion of it all. Excellent beer! Just short of world class!
