| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jul 24, 2005 Draught at brewery: Almost dark brown with amber hues showing through when held to the light, mostly clear with small bubbles seen rising to the surface - a small tan head that lasts. The aroma is mild: caramel, nuts, sugary sweet medium roasted malts, with barely a hint of hops. The flavor starts out with lightly sweet caramel malts, toffee, nuts then goes on to a subtle hint of roast. Overall the flavor is muted a bit, and it takes me a great deal of tastes to discern all that I just wrote. Light bodied, a bit watery, and medium carbonation. guzzler67 (1288), Hanover, Maryland, USA

Spicy aroma with hints of toffee. Sweet malt taste with a barely noticable hop presence. Spices reappear in the finish. hopscotch (5549), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 13, 2002 I had to adjust the score. Tried one today. Not quite the same. Less malt. Crisp, clean finish. Better balance than before. They have a new brewmaster. Today’s taste was not an improvement.
This beer rocks.
A beautiful amber hue. A very malty and nutty nose. Malty, but not sweet. Perfectly balanced. Did I mention MALTY? A perfect brown ale. argo0 (7019), Washington DC, USA
