Commercial Description:
A British style that has a roasted nut-like aroma. Brewed with a number of dark malts, which lend a complex malt character. This beer does not have a lot of hop bitterness, only enough for balance. 5.2 - 5.6% alcohol, by volume

Slightly sweet aroma (caramel), but basically strong malts. Flavor is malty but otherwise non-descript, and ends with a German-style bitterness.

I had to adjust the score. Tried one today. Not quite the same. Less malt. Crisp, clean finish. Better balance than before. They have a new brewmaster. Today’s taste was not an improvement. This beer rocks. A beautiful amber hue. A very malty and nutty nose. Malty, but not sweet. Perfectly balanced. Did I mention MALTY? A perfect brown ale.

Draft at the brewpub. Dark roasty brown with a thin but firm tan top. Nice and full-bodied, moderately nutty with a solid malt base. Perfect accent of lightest bitter finish. Hint of smoke, too.(#2656, 1/15/07)

Clear, medium cherrywood brown-red. Thin filmy-beady head. Cereal aroma. Cereal, grassy nut flavor, lightly tart, medium-light sweetness with a roasty underpinning. Medium-heavy mouth, roasty, tart finish. Kudos to the brewmaster, well done.

On tap at the brewpub on 02/28/2009. Clear brown body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet light nutty aroma with some caramel. Dry caramel and nutty flavor. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

From draught sample at the brewpub. This one has a light bitter nutty aroma, with just a hint of coffee and toasted grain. Neutral fruitiness. Light amber-brown clear, with thin off-white lacing head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Not sure what’s going on with this one; there’s a nice malty component with roasted grain and nutty character. Even a bit of light coffee. But, there seems to be a heavy hand of tannic bitterness here, along with overbrewed tea and some heavy oxidation. Light sweet alcohol taste at the very end, with mild nutty finish.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours mahogany with thin off-white head. The aroma is very weak with some caramel and a little bit of nuttiness. The flavor is caramel, peanut shells, and some earthiness. Simple-minded and unimpressive.
