Commercial Description:
The dark malts used, give this beer a wonderfully rich aroma and taste. Strong roast and burnt characteristics. It is not hopped very heavily and oats are used in this particular beer because they lend a fuller mouthfeel.

I occasionally enjoy this beer on draft at Brewer’s Alley in Frederick. This beer is a very dark brown color, with a long lasting off-white head. The aroma has some hints of chocolate, but mostly features roasty malt, caramel, and of course oatmeal. The flavor has medium bitterness and can be lightly sweet. It is a full-bodied beer with a rich, creamy texture. A good seasonal beer for cooler days, but sometimes uneven in quality.

A red-brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of oatmeal, but also a light roasted note. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of oatmeal, and again a lighter note of roasted malt.

RBSG 2006 - DC Grand Tasting Lineup Black, brownish with light head and lacing. Nose of vegetal roast, light asparagus and coffee. The flavor is creamy, light vanilla, some chocolate. The finish is a tough thin, decent. Needs more body and oat flavor. Nose was probably better yesterday (growler).

From growler, courtesy of Hopscotch, post RBSG RFD tasting, enjoyed in the company of aracauna, springslicker, and kp. Pours a very dark brown with a small creamy beige head. Aroma is roasty with some light hoppiness and some oat character. Flavor is roasty with a light coffee and astringent finish. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with light soft carbonation. Overall, a fairly well rounded Oatmeal Stout, but not too much going on.

Pours a dark brown with a lasting head. There’s good chocolate in the aroma, but it’s a fairly thin beer and not too special.

Beer #3 RBSG 06. Growler. Dark brown, little head. Light roasted aroma. Smooth body, flavor was light milk chocolate. Just a bit thinner than I would have liked.
