morty99 (371), Maryland, USA Sep 5, 2002 A few years ago this was one of my favorite beers. However, the old brewmaster is gone and the beer has now lost some of its character as well. dlovell2 (110), Columbia, Maryland, USA Oct 25, 2007 Black with tan head. Smokey aroma. Smokey coffee taste with hints of oats. Smooth creamy feel. This is an excellent stout. hopscotch (4485), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Nov 13, 2002 I had to adjust the score a little for this season’s batch.
This beer rocks.
The aroma is of dark roast coffee with a touch of chocolate. Though very dark, this beer is not black. Hold it up to the Sun and you see a lovely crimson hue. The flavor is of darkly roasted coffee and cocoa. Perfectly balanced. Not sweet as some oatmeal stouts can be. A dry, crisp finish. Scubatrip (313), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Jul 27, 2005 Out of the tap and also from the cask. Both were very dark with creamy, lasting head. Aromas of malts, chocolate, slight coffee. Draught version was a little more carbonated and thin. Both were excellent stouts The_Beer_God (2838), Newport News, Virginia, USA Apr 25, 2004 Thanks to hopscotch for bringing this to When Continents Collide 2! From the growler. Deep brown to almost black with a reddish hue. Medium tan head. Roasted malt and cocoa with definite alcohol notes in the aroma. Velvety mouthfeel compliments the roasted malt, chocolate and slight woody notes that comprise the taste. VERY good beer.
