hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jun 29, 2008 resinator seasonal @ 8.2% abv... wasn’t really sure of the style until now. it makes sense, though... beautiful color like toasty caramel before the cream is added. off white head and a small amount of lace. lots of fruity hops in the aroma remind me of fruit loops cereal... orange, pineapple, pink grapefruit, flowers, sweet grains, caramel/toffee and coriander. the flavor is quite similar with a dry lightly resinous bitter finish. skunky and dirty earthy hops in the aftertaste. medium body with a rich mouth feel yet crisp... dlovell2 (136), Columbia, Maryland, USA Oct 21, 2007 Had on cask at brewrey. I usually like my beer cold. This one was definally warmer than I would have liked. Very piney hoppy aroma. Bronze color. Very bitterHoppy taste with a crisp finish. LIghtly carbonated. Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 26, 2007 I was glad to see that this is listed as an IPA. I asked the waitress if it was doppelbock (based on the name) and she said that it was, but it is definitely more in the IPA vein. Medium tea-colored gold-brown with a thin clingy head. Fruity caramel AIPA aroma. Dry and woody. Alcohol bitter over dry hops, seedy, slightly briny. Derek881 (486), Frederick, Maryland, USA Jul 8, 2007 They had this beer available on cask at the brewery. A rich, full amber color with a big, foamy white head that had good retention. The aroma had some citrus and pine hops, light caramel malt, and some earthy/grainy notes too. Rich flavor, pretty sour, somewhat bitter, only light sweetness. Low to average carbonation and a medium body; mostly dry. I was happy to see this one on the menu, and it didn’t disappoint. argo0 (6842), Washington DC, USA Sep 11, 2005 Lightly hazed amber body with creamy off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, herbal, some caramel, floral. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, grapefruit/herbal. Medium-full body with some resin. Veeve (312), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Jul 31, 2005 on draught at brewery. hazy reddish-brown body with small but thick off-white head. remnants of which lined the glass throughout. aroma and flavor: citrus, lemon, caramel and grass. medium bodied. high carbonation. very bitter finish. Scubatrip (387), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Jul 27, 2005 From the tap, bronze colored with a very consistent head. Very hoppy aroma and taste, as well as front lawn and some citrus. Finishes bitter, and hoppy again. Not normally a big fan of double IPAs, but this isn’t half bad. BuckNaked (1204), Tempe, Arizona, USA Jul 24, 2005 Draught @ brewery: Slightly hazy dark amber body with a medium eggshell head that just will not quit. The head sits on top of the beer as long as I’m willing to drink it with nice lacin all down the sides of the glass. In the nose I get lots of fresh high alpha acid hops - pine, citrus, spruce, bitter grass, and even a bit of honey and sweet malts. I dive in. The bitterness and fresh grassy qualities of the hops hit me instantly. There’s resin, pine, citrus, grapefruit, orange peel, caramel, sweet crystal malts, and honey? The flavors are well blended here, and the hops are definitely the feature, but the palate is balanced by enough malt sweetness to cut through but not make me feel like I’m drinking syrup. Medium-full bodied, medium carbonation, slightly oily mouthfeel. Plenty of bitter hops in the finish. I was very impressed with this one; it’s as good as any imperial/double IPA I’ve had on the east coast.
