| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Bottle... Hazy, light yellow ale with a huge, rocky, white head. Incredible retention. Spicy, phenolic aroma smells a bit like a fresh bandage alongside spices and herbs - clove, cracked pepper and spent biscuit malt. Full-bodied and almost creamy with lively carbonation. Sweet pale grains, fuzzy fruit, cracked pepper and moderate, herbal bitterness. A tad grassy. Finishes earthy, herbal, moderately sweet and mildly bitter. Kudos to my buddy scraff for shipping this beer to me! JCB (1777), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 6, 2008 750 from Rodman’s, D.C. Bottle actually says 9.2 abv, but whatever. It’s a strong tripel, with a very solid core. Big pour with a lasting fluffy head and a nice-looking golden body. Aroma recalls Duvel, a cross between grassy and fruity, nice balance that I consistently enjoy. Once you get into the beer it’s a very impressive American rendition of the style, with complexity and boldness. While the beer is mostly quite rich and fruity initially, the finish is dry. It seems like every third sip you really get the peppercorn - it’s lovely, and I really, really wish it were more present (not too much more, but just a notch or two). Regardless, it’s a highly satisfying beer. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2008 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Mostly clear straw color, thin even layer of white head. Hints of spice and sweetness on the aroma and also some earth. Sweet taste, not much Belgian yeastiness, a peppery taste without the heat. Odd fruity finish. Nice tripel, a new twist. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 6, 2008 so far...my favorite tripel. even though i havent rated many, ive had plenty. nice hazy gold with a big white head. nice balance between the sweet malt background and the spiciness, either from the peppercorns or likely as much from the hops. glad to see this underappreciated brewpub finally bottling something...so they can get the recognition they deserve. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 4, 2008 TheCheeseman strikes again! Pours a mostly clear gold, with a frothy, pearly sugar, noticeable spices, with mild citrus fruit. The peppercorn is very noticeable right away after the first sip as the spiciness of this beer becomes apparent. Definitely somehting different in this abbey tripel I havent had before. Made it pretty interesting. I hate just boring old tripels. Decent bitterness from the peppercorn lingers in the aftertaste. Not a whole lot of Belgium in this beer, which made for an interesting experience. SoLan (1426), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 3, 2008 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Lightly hazy gold and a small, dense white head. Sweet tripel with a bit of earthy, green spice. Full body, soft and foamy. Unique. TheCheeseMan (539), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2008 Poured a pale lemon yellow. Aroma is sweet, with only the slightest hint of pepper. Notes of yeast and sweet flowers are there, perhaps even a grape like note. Flavor is bolder than the aroma would lead you to belive, with the peppercorns coming on. Nice.
