Yeasty aroma from the start, sweetness, ginger, some hay and caramel malts. On the tongue the yeast leads as well, hint of candi sugar-like cherries, sweetness, a touch of bitter hops towards the finish. Med mouthfeel, med carbonation.
MatSciGuy (351), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 11, 2008 [Bottle] shared by skyview. Gushing bottle pours a hazy caramel with a huge rocky beige head. Aroma is caramel, candi sugar, belgian yeast, and the alcohol is well hidden. Flavor is chalky caramel, a touch of alcohol, belgian yeast, and apples. Dryish and somewhat tart. SQNfan (500), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Oct 3, 2008 This poured a hazy deep golden to rust in color. Aromas were of yeast, spice, citrus and light caramel. In the mouth it was medium to full-bodied, concentrated smooth and rich. The finish showed some dry hops to balance this out nicely. Quite enjoyable. michael-pollack (1596), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 2, 2008 750ml Bottle: Aroma is quite sweet. Smells of fruit, raisins, plums, candi sugar, pepper, and yeast. Poured copper/amber in color with a huge, pillowy, rocky, off-white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Very good lacing. Full of tiny particles. Medium to heavily sweet flavor. Tastes of alcohol, candi sugar, yeast, dust, resin, and fruit. Medium to full body. Thick, effervescent texture. Lively carbonation (cork popped with a bang too). Sweet, lightly dry finish. jjpm74 (3448), Connecticut, USA Sep 13, 2008 750 courtesy of beachbum25. Pours gold with a nice rocky white head. Smells soapy with some wildflowers and crisp malt. Tastes of slight spice, dry malt, fruity. CaptainCougar (4687), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 12, 2008 Pours a transparent copper orange with a large, frothy off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel and honey with some doughy Belgian yeast. Body starts with good fullness and rich biscuity malt flavor with some caramel sugar and floral honey character before a slightly drier, toasty finish. Pretty authentic and true to style.
