Commercial Description:
Our answer to the Belgian «devil» beers (i.e. Lucifer, Duvel, etc.). Both rich and dry, this beer is all too easy to consume in large quantities. Hopped with Styrian Goldings.

Thanks to ballewblake for the bottle. This beer pours a great 1 finger head, but it’s also overcarbonated. Startlingly that’s where the complaints end with this one. It has an amazingly complex yeast profile that is spicy and fruity in both nose and taste. Some white pepper in the taste. Superb lacing on the glass with a dry finish on the palette. For me this was a really delicious Belgian style, said to be a Duvel clone it may eclipse the original in at least 1 or 2 ways. Top notch and highly recommended.

Served on draught at the brewpub in a chalice. Any time a beer is served in its proper glass is a nice touch. Pours to a beautiful, bright, golden color, with a nice white head, and a lively carbonation. The nose on this beer is very well done, with lots of good pale malt flavors, hints of spicy yeast, and peppery alcohol. The palate is firm with good pale malt, and estery flavors of pineapple. This beer finishes with more good pale malt flavors up front, then ends with a spicy and peppery burn. Very well done. Similar to their triple, but not as sweet, and with more of a dry malt character. Was an excellent match to a molasses beef brisket sandwich, as it cut right though the richness and sweetness of the brisket. Makes a excellent aperitif beer.

Courtesy of beachbum25. Thanks! Pours gold with a nice white head. Smells of lemons, grass, hay, wildflowers, perfume. Tastes dry with a great spicy hint and lots of peppery notes. Excellent!

Bottle sent to me by Captain Kitty and enjoyed in my Big Arse Karmeliet tulip: Nice golden hue with a fluffy head. "Voices, A Thousand, Thousand Voices... Whispering, The Time Has Passed For Choices... Golden Days Are Passing Over, Yeah"

The aroma has notes of classic Belgian yeast, bready and earthy, classic DUVAL like hop acidity and spicy vapours, and a hint of cracked winter wheat and red rye. "Howling in shadows... Living in a lunar spell... He finds his heaven... Spewing from the mouth of hell"

A wonderful balance of sweet malt and an overdose of noble and hint of PNW hop bitterness and fruity overtones. The Goldings hops really shine forward with a nice hop spice finish as well. " Your life style to me seemed so tragic...With the thrill of it all... You fooled all the people with magic... Yeah, you waited on Satan’s door".

Brilliant lively mouth feel with a drier woody finish, fits with the framework of the flavor profile."There’s no point in screaming ’Cos you won’t be heard... Now the tables have turned... It was the ultimate sin"::: Beer geeks rejoice, this is a "gimmick" beer that actually delivers, A touch more fresh hops and I would be drinking a Duval clone, brilliant!

Setting: Served chilled in a sample cup at RFD’s Michael Jackson Beer Tasting. Appearance: Clear straw yellow with active carbonation and a thick white head. A dense film of bubbles remained throughout consumption and left a thick sheet of lace on the plastic. I couldn’t see through it, it was so thick. Aroma: Lemony and peppery aromas with some faint grass, clove, and banana notes. Mild whiffs of citrusy coriander. Flavor: No bat, dang. Light tastes of lemon and clove followed by a wheaty malt sweetness. Rather yeasty. More reminiscent of a wit than a strong pale, but good. Palate: Very light in body and quite crisp and refreshing. So smooth that I don’t believe this is 7.25% ABV... Gawdamn. Just a titch on the watery side, though. Overall: Uber drinkable. I could see myself downing many a glass of this in one sitting. Other: no spices are used in the making of this at all. It’s all from the yeast.

A very soft pour easily produces three fingers of pale, tan tinged, off white colored froth in my 25cl tulip glass. The head forms characteristically textured, rockied structures as it slowly subsides all the while leaving a substantial layer of lacing on the sides of my glass. The beer is a rich gold color that shows an almost clear, bright gold color when held up to the light. Ah, the aroma is quite divine (after smelling a vegetal hop note when I was pouring); the aroma focuses on a light pear fruitiness, a hint of green apple, plenty of earthy, peppery spice notes as well as some earthy esters and phenols. Interesting aromatic notes reminiscent of Meyer lemon zest, coriander, grassy pale grain, light saltine cracker grain notes, spicy wild flower nectar, and some dusty grains of paradise aromas all dance in and out of focus as I find my self enjoying the aroma for an extended period of time. Damn the aroma just hits the spot, this is exactly what I was hoping this beer would smell like.

Lightly sweet up front, which is backed up by a carbonic fizz that is quite lively. The beer has a nice mix of fruity esters and spicy phenols as it moves across the tongue; notes of pear, bright honeydew melon, aromatic apple and sweet lemon zest as well as notes of clove, some woody black pepper and light notes of spicy ginger. This has a bit more sweetness and a touch more fullness to it than the Prototype of the style. As it warms up the beer picks up a bit of heat in the finish with some cleaner higher alcohol notes becoming a bit more noticeable.

A second pour of this, warmer than the first, starts to accentuate the earthy spice notes that were so noticed in the aroma. This gets an herbal, slightly vegetal note toward the finish at times and there is also a light hop bitterness here that at times is not noticed because of the sweeter fruit flavors.

Damn, what is up with Brewers Art, all three beers I have had from these guys have been outstanding. Why am I not hearing more buzz about these guys? They certainly deserve it. This is a fantastic take on a Duvel inspired beer; fruity and spicier than Duvel, the added character definitely works wonderfully, especially considering that this is a bit sweeter than Duvel, that added flavors definitely help to tame the sweetness quite well.
