Commercial Description:
During the fermentation of the first batch of this Abbey-style dubbel, the yeast «died» and was «resurrected» by brewer Chris Cashell. This beer is not unlike those that certain Belgian monks have been brewing since the 16th century. Made with five types of barley malt and lots of sugar, this beer is quite strong and flavorful, without being too sweet.

On tap at Max’s in Baltimore. The pour was more brown than red, slightly turbid and sat beneath a decent off-white head that was borderline creamy. The aroma was lots of malt and spices. The flavor was very malt heavy with nice spice but not as much fruitiness as I like. The mouthfeel was fine, solid carbonation that added life but wasn’t in the way.

Nice spicy aroma with lightly sweet flavors of yeastiness, brown sugar, apples, plums, and some banana but only after the finish. Fairly crisp despite a nice maltiness. Very good beer.

On tap at the Frisco Grille in Columbia, Maryland. Poured a very nice red color with a nice white head. Aroma was fairly sweet with a hint of fruit and malt. Flavor was a bit different though. Kind of dry, a little less sweet but with a nice twang on the back end. Good beer. A little high ABV for a session beer, but the flavor is there for sure.

I’ve had this on tap at several locations in Maryland, most recently at Out of the Fire in Easton, MD. Pours a dark amber with a light head. Aroma is sweet and spicy with a bit of fruitiness (cardamom, muscat grape, malt). Crisp on the tongue, alcohol comes through on the back end. very good brew!

Hazy red brown pour with a nice thick white head. Fruity banana aroma. Dry fruity flavor with spice. Citrusy and malty. Complex.

On tap @ Max’s Baltimore. Poured a copper golden color. Slight spiciness but pretty sweet. Pretty good but a some heavier malt presence would overcome the sweetness & balance it out a little

Got it on draft at the Brewer’s Art (in Baltimore of course) at the recommendation of a German friend. Was a pretty decent dubbel. Lovely coppery color and smooth taste. Despite the description, it was a little too sweet.
