yemenmocha (344), Glendale, Arizona, USA May 2, 2009 Enjoyed on tap at the Brewer’s Den. Poured medium amber with a pleasant black tea aroma that carried on through to the palate. Reminded me of the English Ale called Whitbread. Hops have a metallic character, and round out the flavor nicely. Easy drinking. hellbilly (1494), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Apr 6, 2009 tap at sonora/brewers den/sun up/whatever they decide to change it to next!... 7.3% 75 ibu.
i must have gotten the bottom of the keg since i received a murky opaque red tinted nutty brown pour. it is capped by a soft light tan head with great retention and an abundance of ring lacing.
that house buttery aroma jumps out first. it is followed by scalded cream, sweet malts, coffee-like nuttiness, some pine and green leafy hops.
lots of toffee and sweet caramel maltiness is offset by a large dose of pine and grass-like hops with a very dry parching finish... along the way are flavors of nutty coffee, chocolate, cheesy house flavor and just a hint of the alcohol.
medium to full body is slick but the hoppy dryness keeps me coming back. 6/5/6/4/14/3.5
cask version at papago... uwe is up to his hoppy tricks again.... intensely dry and hoppy version of the same beer only it is almost clear this go around. hop bitterness is almost intense enough to make the sugar disappear! 8/4/7/4/15/3.8
SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Mar 27, 2009 Sampled at the 2009 AZ Strong Beer Fest on February 28th. (Called Sonora Brewhouse Crimson.) Beautiful red color pour with a nice lasting head. Slightly sweet aroma of malt with a bit of hops. Hops come through more in the flavor. Very nice. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Mar 24, 2009 CASK at Papago. Color is the best part about it - a bloody crimson. Nose is sharp and grainy, flavor is much the same. Not even a cask could smooth this out all the way. The hops don’t really blend with each other or the malt, so conflict ruins a perfectly fine red. nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 16, 2009 Tap at the Den. Pours like coffee with a beige head and thick lacing. Smells primarily of malt. Tastes of bitter hops, juicy dark cherries, and faint barley. Has a sticky finish and a warming amount of alcohol. Good stuff. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 15, 2007 Tap @ Brewhouse. Cherry and malt for aromas. Dark amber/red body with thin head and good amount of lacing. Sweet fruity flavor along with a good malt and bitter balance. Smooth on the palate but did get a shot of alcohol on finsh. Also a roasty malt aftertaste on finish, wherever that came from didn’t notice any roast in the flavor.
