The aroma is very sweet and very malty, combined with medium notes of dusty hops, brown sugar, and grain as well as a hint of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel, milk chocolate, and toffee, as well as lighter notes of roasted malt, leading to a slightly bitter finish. The body is a bit thin. Papsoe (9980), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 27, 2008 (On tap) Beautiful warm and almost clear reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malt, a little tobacco and smoke. Medium-bodied with sweet roasted malt and a burned, tobaccoish edge. Cloudy orange red coloured with a small off white head.
Sweet aroma of caramel and liquorice with notes of dried fruits.
Sweet flavour of caramel and liquorice with a touch of smoke and notes of hops.
Hoppy finish.
Good brown ale.
yespr (6162), Copenhagen O, Denmark Apr 14, 2008 Updated: Jun 17, 2008From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy dark brown with a lacing off-white head. Chocolate and roasted malt aroma. Light acidic note. Flavour is smooth chocolate, breadish malt flavour and a medium roasted acidic note following. Medium dry finish. Growing bitterness and roasted finish.
Also as Virginia Smokey Brown, later batch with some smoke malt. Aroma has a faint smoke note in addition and the flavour is clearly more dry and less chocolate flavoured. sk8viking (6078), Copenhagen, Denmark May 4, 2008 Draught at the brewpub. A red brown beer with a tan head. The aroma is dusty and of nuts and chocolate. The taste is of nuts, chocolate, light roasted malt and biscuits. Medium body with a sweet dry finish.
