DruncanVeasey (1823), No. 46, Leicestershire, Belgium Mar 13, 2008 Cask, Leicester Fest ’08 (Thurs afternoon session). Intense fat roast, loose tan head, ruby tints, unfolding chocolate behind the bitterness, leather, Bovril, big hoppy IBUs. Dark and complex. Solid beer to open the festival with... hughie (2415), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Dec 1, 2007 Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark brown with a beige head. Dusty, ashy malt aroma. Medium chocolate taste. Very mild finish. Just the ticket. RichardGretton (2748), Leicestershire, England Apr 14, 2007 Cask@Leicester Beer Festival 2007. Dark beer with a light head. The aroma is deeply dry and the flavour is dry, not cheesey and slightly thick. Overall a reasonable beer. haddonsman (1205), Derby, Derbyshire, England Feb 15, 2007 Cask (gravity) Melton Mowbury Festival 06. Wrong, wrong wrong. Where was the cheesiness? It says Stilton on the cask. All it tasted of was sublime, quality chocolate malt. I’d a good mind to take the organisers to court, trades descriptions, tsk, this country today, Tony Blair, global warming....

Sorry, turned into my Dad for a moment. We very nearly added a lump of Stilton into it so we could take it back and say ’the Stilton in this beer has just settled to the bottom, can’t you shake the cask up’ but we like Steve Westby and didn’t want to pee him off.

An excellent beer, very easy drinking. The beer was named in the aftermath of Melton’s greatest cheese heist, five tonnes of Stilton stolen before Xmas 04. harrisoni (5474), Ashford, Kent, England Feb 3, 2007 Cask gravity at White Cliffs BF 2007. Black beer with brown edges. Bubbly tan head. Lovely aroma. Lovely intensity. Great choc/charcoal. Bit of powder on the finish. Intense choc aroma is utterly sutnning. So full of great Green & Black’s style bitter dark choc. But there is smoothness there too. Amazing.
