goldtwins (3721), Nesconset, New York, USA Apr 24, 2008 Poured a clear copper with a white head. Toasty aroma with mild floral notes. Floral hops and a light sweetness that dries out quite a bit. Very long hop bitterness.
Chapel (299), Levittown, New York, USA Apr 4, 2008 Rather useless. After the very enjoyable Imperial Pilsner at Black Forest I had high hopes for this, however this failed in most ways. Pours a very light copper with a little bit of head. Aroma is grassy. Flavor is equally grassy and mildly skunky. There is a decent amount of bitterness, maybe a little too much (standard ’over hop’ to cover other mistakes). A slight redeaming quality is that it has a very smooth head and doesn’t have the fizzy soda-like quality which can really ruin a beer if not done right. The kicker which really sets this apart and makes it hard to drink is the alcohol at the end. It comes on especially as the beer warms, but unlike with something like an Imp Stout, the alcohol feels unwelcome. This is almost at the end of its life cycle, but if they ever bring it back don’t hesitate to take a pass on it. Looks good and feels good, but lacks in the really important areas.
