Commercial Description:
A healthy dose of Northwest hops balances the sweetness of black strap molasses to make this a velvet-rich, creamy descendent of the great Irish stouts. A real treat for those who crave the dark side of brewing.

Fine-grained, delicate, lacy head floats on a dark, opaque, chocolate liquid. Subdued, almost piney aroma hints at what is to follow - a perfectly roasted, coffee-malt-butterscotch delight! Another home run from Portland’s Bridgeport, which once more does more than hold it’s own. Impressive.

On ntiro tap at SE Hawthorne BridgePort in PDX--Poured a lovely cascading and creamy black and brown with latherous and a lively cream-to-tan head that retained itself wonderfully. Nice lacing. Thin chocolaty sweet roasty nose. Smooth creamy dessertif mouth feel. Initial taste was dtrong of metal and chocolate malts. Complexities were unveiled as more of this beer was enjoyed. Smooth, rich, and lush. Dark fruity and roasted nutty finish. Yum.

12 oz bottle via RBSS 2007. Pours black with a large tan head. Nose is mellow with just some coffee and roasted grains. Taste is pretty good with a nice balance of sweet caramel and roasted barley. Also a little chocolate and some raisins. Carbonation is high, body is light. A nice sessionable stout, although it is more sweet than dry...oh well..let’s call it semi-dry ;)

12/03/2007: BridgePort Black Strap Stout pours a dark mahogany brown color (looks like nearly black and opaque in the glass). It has a pillowy and frothy tan head that collapses very, very slowly. Not only does this beer have good head retention, but it also leaves some nice lacing on the glass. The aroma reveals chocolate and roasted malt with some molasses and light char. It actually smells a little lighter than it actually looks. There is quite a bit of roasted malts and some chocolate and coffee notes in the flavor. This beer finishes dry with a lingering char and ground coffee-bean flavor. I like it. Especially the light meaty smoky quality that comes out of hiding when the beer warms up slightly! This beer has a medium-light to medium body and is quite smooth on the palate. It would have liked a bit more body, but it has been my experience that most Dry Stouts seem to be on the thinner side. That’s okay as long as it tastes good and this one definitely does! It is a well-crafted Dry Stout overall that is quite robust and flavorful.

12 fluid ounce bottle (Alcohol 6.0% by Volume) from Haggens in Bellingham, Washington. Rating #261 for this beer...

Bottle. Dark black with thin brown head. Pleasant aroma. Tastes of coffee, but smooth. Kind of middle of the road.

(Bottle) Pours an inky black color with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and nut. Taste is of roasted toffee and light coffee grounds. Mediocre palate, and slightly over-carbonated mouthfeel. Not bad at all, but not very impressive either.

12 oz. bottle. Pour is black with a smallish tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and and some hop bitterness. Taste is right on with nose, nice medium bodied roastiness with a bright hop bitterness in the finish. Decent stout.
