Commercial Description:
A healthy dose of Northwest hops balances the sweetness of black strap molasses to make this a velvet-rich, creamy descendent of the great Irish stouts. A real treat for those who crave the dark side of brewing.

Deep black color - but not quit motor oil. No head. Chocolate, cofee and roasted malts on the nose. Chocolate malt body with a smooth finish.

Be sure to let this beer warm up before drinking to truly appreciate all the flavors in this beer. Pours an almost-black in color with a thin filmy head. Nose is dark and earthy with both chocolate and coffee tones. Rich strong flavors. Plenty of coffee with strong tones of rich, dark chocolate. Just a simply slight smoky presence and perhaps a touch of sulphur as the beer warms even closer to room temperature. Medium body. This might even be a decent beer of aged for a bit (but not too long) of time. Not a bad beer for the summer.

Pours to a really dark ruby body that looks black with a thin light khaki head and nice lacing. The aroma is black patent, anise, and molasses. The flavor is sweet molasses, a light brown ale, black patent, and subtle fennel. The palate is sweet and carbonated with a clean finish. I wouldn’t think this is a dry stout.

On tap at the brewpub during ABA Beer Tour 07. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thick off-white head that quickly dissolves to a fine film. Aroma of molasses, roasted chocolate and rich toffee. Taste is smooth, creamy full bodied, with flavors of molasses, toasted multi-grain and allspice. Finish is smooth, light, with a light toasted malt aftertaste.

12-oz. Pours deep black with a thick, sudsy off-white head. Plenty of clingy lace on the way down. Plenty of roast and chocolate on the nose, also kind of a rich earthy funk which totally shocked me. Nice quiet and subdued attack with soft carb, light body, and restrained flavors. The roast and toast and chocolate and gentle dry chalk pick up for the mid-palate, but they’re not hitting you over the head. This is a nice little beer, not too overpowering, but well-made, well-balanced.

After just rating their IPA, I remembered I had tried THIS Beer late last year..AND I also remember liking it at the time...the time when a 3.5 was considered a "strong" score from The Almighty C.E.O...

Bottle. Very dark brown - not quite black - with a diminishing beige head. Cooking chocolate aroma, with a berry/cherry fruit backdrop and a hint of vanilla. Bitter hop and burnt malt on the palate. Finishes rather tart. Not particularly full, or smooth stout. Not bad, but I expected more.

Aroma of dark toasted malt backed by chocolate. Dark brown color with virtually no head. Medium body. Starts with dark molasses sweetness, followed by some bits of chocolate. There is also a decent amount of bitter - unless it is that burnt malt thing. Finishes dry. Mouth smackingly good. The long result is bitter with toasted malt.
