Dec 17, 2006 Pours nearly impenetrable ruby black with the slightest thin orange-hued, tan head. Mild aroma of hops and chocolate. Light flavor of bitter chocolate, and some warm caramel. Balanced and dry. It’s good, just not very upfront in any one flavor. It’s a little watery, especially for a stout, but good.

Dec 16, 2006 Pours dark brown (clear mahogany up to light) with a tan head. Caramel, some floral hops and a little mocha in the nose. Flavor has light notes of dark caramel, moderate chocolate, light roastiness/fruitiness and ends with sweet toffee. While nothing’s wrong with the flavor, it’s just very plain and uninspired. Medium to thin bodied with soft carbonation; ends watery. Eh.

Dec 14, 2006 Dark brown pour with small-bubbled, thick head that quickly diminishes. Lots or roasted malts in the nose in addition to coffee and caramel. Flavor is slightly sweet and bitter at the end — licorice, coffee, caramel. Watery texture, medium body. Slick mouthfeel. Dry finish. Tasty, but not all that interesting.

Dec 14, 2006 The 12-ounce brown bottle poured an opaque dark brown color with a tan head. Big toffee aroma. Medium body with fairly creamy mouthfeel. Nice blend of hop bitterness and roasted character. Rich, possibly molassas-like sweetness. Nice complexity.

Dec 2, 2006 Bottle. Poured black with thin brown head. Aroma of molasses, malt, cloves and banana. Taste of malt, oatmeal, molasses, milk and caramel. Finish drops off with little hoppiness, and much malt.

Nov 27, 2006 Absolutely black, opaque with a thick, brown but lacing head. Caramel sweet induced roastiness that is streamlined nicely with no harsh roasted or astringent notes and a touch of mintiness in the background, enveloping fermentation fruit, subtle milk, and some earthy hops. Flavor is a lot like the aroma but somewhat less complex. The sweetness in the malt foundation is perfect.

Nov 5, 2006 Pours near black with some ruby hues. Aroma of smoked meats, molasses, spice, and dark bread dough. Taste is smoky with a taste of sweet molasses. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly oily with smooth carbonation.
