| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 11, 2006 Tastes like a roasted coffee/chocolate milkshake without the milk. I bet if you made beer floats with this stuff it would be SICK. Not like sick in a bad way, but more along the lines of how the "kids" are using it. What I mean is, really good. framebender (56), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 10, 2006 Looks delicious. Pours a deep black with copper highlights and thin creamy head. Head is perfect for a stout - thin with small bubbles and very lacy head. Pretty much no aroma which is somewhat to style but would like to have something there. Flavor has some kind of a soapy taste in the background that lingers into the aftertaste. I don’t know how to identify it but it is a soap kind of taste. Aside from that tastes great. Nose is of a small amount of molasses, with some chocolate notes thrown in along with some roastiness; Very dark but transparent brown with a small tan head; flavor is semi sweet with some mild molasses and background cocoa and coffee notes. footbalm (1219), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2006 Purchased at my neighborhood bottle store. Pours a deep dark brown and man canI smell the roasted maltiness right away. A very nice beer and this was a smooth chocolatey, roasted flavor that I was happy to be drinking. savitska (163), Smyrna, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 13, 2006 My kind of stout: not too sweet like a milk stout and not too dry like a Guiness.
I was doubtful of the molasses - I thought the beer would taste fake: too sweet, carbonated and alcoholic.
Instead, the roasted sweetness is augmented by the molasses and the dark flavors of coffee are enhanced.
A good stout to pass away the football season. hopscotch (5537), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 12, 2006 Updated: Oct 9, 2006Bottle... Near black ale with a ruby hue and a small, frothy, khaki head. Subtle aromas of sassafras, cocoa and vanilla. Slightly lactic. Perfectly balanced flavor. Chocolaty and just a smidge tangy with good roastiness and bitterness. Medium-bodied and fizzy. Chocolaty, lightly bitter finish. Kudos to growler for sharing the bottle! apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 2, 2006 Very dark brown with a quickly fading head. To me, the aroma is of dishwater, with hints of rose. It is somewhat medicinal, perhaps a little like cherry-flavored robitussin. The flavor itself is much better, though. As a dry stout goes, it is very well-balanced with dryness - rich minerals and yet it is still creamy and refreshing. A decent dry stout, but it lacks some important nuances.
