Aroma is of sugared burnt coffee. Flavor ends up being a cheap overdone coffee type of thing with maybe a hint of molasses in the very back. Not all that enjoyable but it is pretty to look at. Aroma is coffe and roasted malts. has a sort of heated baking quality to it. Dark brown to black color with a thumb thick mocha head. Fore is a touch sour then coffee and chocolate elelments come through. Sweeter elements come toward the finish, but to me it doesn’t real taste of molasses as much as refined sugars and caramel. Finish is caramelized and sugary with a medium bitterness. TheBeerNinja (137), Durham, North Carolina, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 31, 2006 Rich dark brown color with a thick dark tan head. Thick and sticky lacing. Super sweet malt and molasses aroma, along with some roasted coffee. Full-bodied with semi-sweet chocolate, malt and caramel flavors bordering on cloying - and I like my Stouts on the sweet side. It does round out pretty quickly though, with coffee and a bit of hops coming through. The finish is long and sweet with dark chocolate and coffee. Pretty enjoyable. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 30, 2006 Bottle. Black body, thin tan head. Brewer’s licorice and acidic black malt in the aroma with a bit of oatmeal in the background. The aroma would be dry but for the licorice sweetening things up. Medium-thin mouthfeel. The flavor has a nice grassy-tart molasses start that leads into tart black malt. In the background is brown sugar-laced coffee grounds. Finishes with roasty, acidic black malt. If you like your dry stouts big then this is a winner, it’s no wimpy Irish-style dry stout. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2006 Jrob, Nice.. Poured black with a big nose of licorice and i guess molasses. Small tan head, adeqaute lacing. I feel the mouth feel was thick and viscous for a straight stout. Very dry, lets the roasted malts and mild peper settle on the tongue. The carbination was a bit high at first, but really helped to carry the flavors as it warmed. Nice, IMO. csbosox (1082), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 25, 2006 12oz bottle. Mix a six. Served in a small snifter at around 50°, the current cellar temp. Roasty, chocolate, coffee aroma. Black color with a reddish tint at the very edges and a light khaki head. The beer and foam coats the glass. The initial taste is roasty, sweet malt followed by more roast, cream, some dark fruits (figs?), and piney hops. The finish is roasty and mildly bitter/astringent. Decent mouthfeel. Not too bad for a dry stout, one of my least favorite styles. Hangover (770), Atlanta, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 19, 2006 Dark brown, almost black pour, with a small sized tan head. Aroma is predominately that of coffee, with some chocolate and light hopping. Taste is the same, with some molasses and perhaps some dried fruit. A bit too watery for what I expect from a stout. Dry finish, true to style, but could use some more oomph and a bit less carbonation to satisfy my tastes.
