| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 9, 2006 12 oz bottle, via acertain. Pours a thinnish dark brown with a finger sized light brown head. Light aroma of roasted malt with a drying yeast character. Notes of alcohol and molasses as well. Flavor is a mix of roasted malt and molasses with some alcohol in the finish. Thin mouthfeel with low carbonation. Nothing too exciting but pretty well made. Not sure why they don’t bottle condition this, I think it would help conciderably. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 7, 2006 Medium tan head and nice lace top off a black, ruby bordered pour. Roasted malt, coffee, and burnt caramel followed by grapefruit/citrus hops, and a dry, but not excessively bitter finish. Suttree (2748), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 2, 2006 Black, with a tan head. aroma of prune, coffee and molasses, although that could be because i saw "Black Strap" in the name and immiately started thinking of black strap molasses. I swear, I can be so suggestable some times. Full bodied, with notes of toast, coffee and a surpisingly clean finish. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA

Overall it is tasty, but kind of boring. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2005 12 oz bottle from Blue Max in Burnsville, MN (Dec 2005). Pours with a moderate frothy light tan head, thick lacing atop a faintly translucent jet body...robust nose of dark burnt sugars and green sprucy hops, cola and nut-bread, well-integrated....body is a bit underpowed in the flavor department, alas: light chocolate and cola, touch of weak coffee, bit of prunes, but it’s all rather watery and dull, though some pleasant bitterness arrives at the finish to keep it from being a washout. Decent, really, but it seemed to promise a bit more than it delivered.
