Pours opaque blackened-brown with a creamy tan head and sheets of lacing. Aroma is rich with chocolate and coffee. Well-balanced with coffee dominating the flavor. Roasted malts linger in the finish. Quite earthy with a bit of peppery hops. Medium-full body for the style and well-carbonated. A very drinkable stout. MoreHead (355), Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA

It pours and looks like thin oil with a light brown head. The feel is thin and the aftertaste is sweet like root beer. Not bad, just not my favorite. rhino44 (22), Afton, Virginia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 5, 2005 Dark brown colour. The aroma is complex but indistinct. Whole grain bread leads the way in the nose but I’m struggling to pick out much of anything else. Molasses notes are at the fore of a sweet, nutty body that features leathery accents and sugar-laden gas station coffee. Roast and hop bitterness are minimal, making this more of a porter (a style in which molasses is more at home anyway). grat (433), ST. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2005 Excellent stout. Bottle conditioned to boot. Almost completely black but garnet around the edges where the light shines through. Nose is complex and stunning. Sweet and yet retains a complex dryness that is very satisfying. Slight bourbon, a little bit of yeasty cheese funk and rum soaked raisins. Nice. Dry at first, this proceeds to a brown sugar sweetness and then into a hop bitterness. This beer is fabulous. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 1, 2005 Very dark black body that shows a fair amount of ruby when shown up to a bright light. The head of light orange faded very quickly. The aroma is sugar sweetened coffee with some light toffee notes. This would suggest a sweet tasting beer. The taste is sweetened coffee with some strong roasted notes in the aftertaste. This one has both sweet and roasted character. I would prefer less sweet taste in the balance for a dry stout. The body is a little thin and this lends it to be a session style beer. Decent overall, but far from a great dry stout.
