Certainly, it does not have its own weather system. ;-) Hints of chocolate and molasses, and a little caramel in the aroma. Not too strong, but smooth. Nice, crisp taste unlike a lot of stouts. Finish is coffee tasting, not too sweet. Really enjoyed this stout. As a rookie, I’d have to say it’s one of my favorite stouts so far. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Its sweetness is also the best sweetness I’ve tasted in a stout. While others are sugary sweet like Pepsi or generic cola, this is a crisp, sophisticated sweetness like Coke. With all that said, I stil prefer as little sweetness in a stout as possible. This would be a very nice stout if it tasted more like beer and less like Coke. fly (1332), austin, Tejas, USA

I’m sure that molasses has been used more than once, but would prefer malt that acheived it. Nothing terrible, nothing spectacular. I’ll stick to their IPA for now. Nice sweet aroma of toffee, also reminds me of my favorite BBQ place for some reason (Luling City Market rules all). Tasted of burnt sugar and coffee. Finish had a nice rich honey and floral quality. Creamy feeling on the tongue, but also a bit watery. I didnt find this very complex, but I didnt care. Great beer that’s tasty and a joy to drink. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 24, 2005 Bottle. Pours opaque with a small tan frothy head that fairly quickly dissipates to a thin rocky film. Molasses and roasted caramel malt and brown sugar aromas mix pleasantly with a faint fruit hop aroma. Sweet chocolate and hoppy flavor greets you and transitions well to creamy molasses and dark roasted coffee. Spicy and medium bodied creamy palate. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA

Molasses and lactose sweetness meld with mild chocolate and roasty flavors. Somewhat watery finish. Mouthfeel is medium and pretty smooth. JK (2961), Richfield, Minnesota, USA

Flavor is surprisingly light with coffee and chocolate. Body is thin, and the beer is somewhat bitter. In an older bottle all of the same is there, but now there is some sweetness and fermenting fruit as well Also carmel, giving it a bock flavor while cold. Good; score raised.
