The Dominion had an acidic afterbite. This starts incredibly smooth and stays in that zone. Chocolately and coffee undertone. Very very good Beer!!! Bridgeport doesn’t disappoint. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2005 This was good and mouth-filling. Perhaps a bit *too* stout though. I mixed it with whole milk once at that tasted more like Guinness. punkeedo (465), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 16, 2005 This is a really nice stout. It is reminiscent of Guinness in its creamy mouthfeel and has hints of sweet smokiness that make this complex brew very enjoyable. bierfinder (10), College Station, Texas, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 8, 2005 Dry stout, maybe. but I liked it, inspite of its very simple and clean finish. When it comes to stout, I tend to be real picky. This is somewhere between a stout and a porter, as it lacks the complex "finish" of malt, hops and rich molasses/smokey flavor of some stouts. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 29, 2005 Ok so this is classified as a dry stout. Which adds even more to the confusion between stout and porter, being that stout tends to be maltier and porter tends to be hoppier. Well, the aroma of this beer definitely tends towards the porter side due to a strong hoppy graphite basis. Yet the flavor of this beer is more confusing still -- very smooth and malty yet at the same time possessing all the complexity of the wad of Dubble Bubble chewing gum I disposed of last week into the gutter ... However, technicalities aside, this is a good beer to sit back and relax on after a good meal. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 26, 2005 Semi black but mostly dark brown body. Medium tanned sand froth at the top. Settles to a firmly set thick skim. Light lacing in thick sporatic strings.
Aroma is of dry chocolate and some black malt husk. Has hints of burnt sugary alcoholic esters in with a subdued fruityness.
Taste is a nice subtle medley of dryish-like cocoa roast and light coffee mixing with an effervescence of pale dark fruityness a la prune and plum. Nice light drying touch throughout its stay. Very light touches to burntness on the trailing end as does a dry leafy hop. Some fruity leftovers approach late all the while keeping that dry cocoa dusting. Quite subtle and easy going with a firmness to it thats handled well.
Feel is about medium bodied, and the dryness is about medium too. Not harsh in any fashion; smooth and drying with a pleasantly mild malt roast and semi-tangy feel. A solid stout no doubt. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 21, 2005 Black color with a small head. Very light hops and bitter aroma. The taste is lacking the standout malt character of a stout, and instead goes for the slightly sweet side. It’s kind of a sugary sweet, but thankfully not over done. Not a bad beer at all.
