I think Guiness and its cohorts are generally decent but lacking in flavor. This beer is a pleasantly surprising exception. Silky smooth and pitch black with a dark head that fades quickly, the aroma is strong espresso and raw molasses. Flavor is much the same with a strong deeply bitter finish. Has a bit of sweetness to offset the strong bitter espresso character. RaginCajun (284), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2008 Dark brown body with a small but persistent head. Lots of roasted malts in the aroma, very inviting. The nose is all malts and it fades quickly into a slight hop finish. Very reminiscent of Guinness, but tastier. Good session beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2008 Black with brown highlights. Long lasting dense tan head. Faint roasy aroma. Creamy and rich flavor, not too roasty or burnt, clean and more satisfying than the porter.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 20, 2008 Taste 7/8 Bottle(date?). Looks: Black and tan. Aroma: Chocolate, espresso, roast, wine. Taste: Smooth, flavorful at first, then a clean creaminess. A little hop on the tongue, more a feeling then a taste. Nice DuffMan (2766), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 19, 2008 Dark brown, initially robust brown head that rapidly fades without lace. Mostly brown bread aroma, with some burnt malt and dark fruit thrown in, but I’m not picking up any coffee or chocolate really (and I’m smelling the beer right now, as I type this review). On the palate, the fruit is coming forward to the point of overtaking the dark malts, distracting. The finish is quite bitter and astringent. Palidor19 (1785), Brandon, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 19, 2008 This is a great example of what a dry stout should taste like. even though their is little aroma and the palate is thin, the taste and dryness of the beer is great. slight coffee but not overpowering. texasbartender (160), Sugarland, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 10, 2008 The beer pours a deep black color with a thin off white head that dissipates quickly. The nose is a mix of toasted malts and burnt sugar. The mouth feel is slightly watery, the taste is a slightly bitter mix of chocolate, burnt sugar and roasted malts. I can really get the blackstrap molasses taste off the beer.
