Commercial Description:
A healthy dose of Northwest hops balances the sweetness of black strap molasses to make this a velvet-rich, creamy descendent of the great Irish stouts. A real treat for those who crave the dark side of brewing.

Poured a rich dark color with minimal tan head. Fair amount of lacings. Very well balanced dark roasted malt with fair amont of piney hops. Very enjoyable.

Deep brown with medium tan head. Roasted malts, molasses, milky, oats, and dark fruits. Body is a bit thin, and a fair amount of carbonation. Flavor is much like the aroma. Finish is full of the dark fruits and light bittersweet. Alright stout, but not much going on.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with ruby-red around the edges when held up to the light and a small creamy off-white head. The aroma has some oatmeal and cereal components as well as thick sugary malts and cocoa. Silky body with dry roast and cocoa flavours. Some lingering nuttyness and fruit notes in the finish and actually noticeably bitter. Pretty good overall.

On tap at BrewPub Portland OR, Pours out a great black topped with a tan head. A very nice aroma of coffee and some sweetness. Tast once again of coffee, sweet dark bitter chocolate.

From the cellar. 12 oz. bottle with a 30199 code.Oct.’ 99. Black color with a small brown head. Has a dry, milk chocolate, dark fruity malt smell. Thin to medium bodied with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Taste is fairly sweet with plums, cherries, chocolate , and a smoked malt flavor. Finishes with a dry, slightly bitter, dark roasted malt taste. A very tasty stout. The smell here reminds Stones IRS.

I really enjoy this beer. Unlike a lot of dark beers I have had, this beer is not bitter and nasty. The malty chocolate flavor is pleasant and does not leave your mouth feeling violated. I also use this beer in recipes calling for dark beer as it lends a nice flavor to beef dishes.
