kidmartinek (656), austin, Texas, USA May 12, 2008 Pours black with a small tan head that lasts a few minutes. Excellent lacing. Aroma of mild caramel malt and watery darker malt. and a little hops too. Flavor is exceptionally biller and potent witth malt undertones. It almost tastes strongly alcoholic een though it’s not. Texture is .edium light. Finish is mildly malty and strong bitter.
texasbartender (124), Sugarland, Texas, USA Jul 10, 2008 The beer pours a deep black color with a thin off white head that dissipates quickly. The nose is a mix of toasted malts and burnt sugar. The mouth feel is slightly watery, the taste is a slightly bitter mix of chocolate, burnt sugar and roasted malts. I can really get the blackstrap molasses taste off the beer. nick76 (1960), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 2, 2008 The aroma is what I wanted it’s got molasses, hops, roasted malt, and coffee. The appearance is dark brown with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is smooth but thin. Overall it’s decent. nathan30533 (17), Dahlonega, Georgia, USA Jun 29, 2008 Pours very dark, good taste but not great. Palate is overall smooth but there is a bit of carbonation in this stout. Not my favorite stout but an overall good tasting brew. Ty5592 (1002), Hatfield, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2008 Been wanting to try this for some time now. Pours dark brown, almost black with small head. Aroam was nice with choclate, coffee, and maple. The taste was a nice balance of those flavors with light sweetness and light fizziness in the finish. Light to medium body. chokmah33 (82), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jun 12, 2008 Earthy carmelly malts, molasses butterscotch, toffee, vanilla. Slightly smokey, cola aroma. Dry grass, burnt marshmellow sweet roasted malts.
Some lighter fruity notes (banana, cherries), and a rubbing-alchohol burn. Minor hops comes through the darkness as well.
Hickcory smoke up front.
Darkly roasted barley + molasses dominate. Notes of dark coffee, licorice, cocoa. Sweet fruits noted in aroma are subdued, bananas and chocolate ice cream describes it.
Enough citric hops comes in near finish to keep it dry.
Not enough bubbly, palate overdone with malty thickness. Slight tang that reminds me of dried cherries. Nice dry finish with slight stickiness.
This Stout has a unique floral freshness to it that I dig, probably due to the generous (for this style) hops.
The flavor didn’t meet the expectations I got from the excellent aroma, but still a noteworthy stout.
