Head and shoulders better than any of the other Portland brews. See other comments for very accurate beer-snob description, hoppy nose, hint of citrus, yadda yadda yadda. drfreedom (7), portland, Oregon, USA does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Apr 9, 2004 this is my all time fav. starting with a nice simple blue label that pays tribute to the official bird of portland.
great clean taste, very hoppy without being a "brewers" beer. some brewers overwhelm me with hops but the bridgeport guys keep it solid.
my overall fav. best from a tap. rob6799 (7), Washington, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | Jun 2, 2004 Wow, this is really good brew! I’m new to the micro brew type beers and I’ve been missing out on a lot of high quality beer. Blue Heron is superb. Lots of flavor, fresh, crisp, clean and flowery with a beautiful color. To think this stuff is brewed right across the river from me and I never knew. I definitely must try this on tap. I recommend this beer it’s very good. milljame99 (24), Corvallis, Oregon, USA

Red-hued, gently citrusy from Cascade hopping. willblake (2191), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

In fact, it was this beer and Sinebrychoff Porter that got me interested in ratebeer.com this last summer. I've been holding off until recently on rating beers because I haven't been able to figure this one out.
Nothing outstanding about Blue Heron, nothing to scoff at either. First tried it on the recommendation of a barkeep in Bozeman in '99 and it has been my favorite session beer ever since. Pours a fantastic translucent tangerine and gold with a fluffly, brainy head. Mild hop and citrus nose that refreshes and clears my senses. Each hop and malt balanced sip is greeted with this aromatic tease. Always better in the middle of the beer, but fine and proud character from start to finish. I find it to be less thin and watery than most APAs, with a more agreeable bitterness front to back. When living in MT, always kept at least six of these on hand. I am heavily biased, for whatever reason, but I love this beer. Dragon99 (57), Laramie, Wyoming, USA
