Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 14, 2008 From a 22-oz. bottle from BridgePort BrewPub--Deep ruby color with a small off-white head. Woody, boozy, grainy. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 10, 2008 22 oz. bottle & draft - dark amber with slight haze and quickly fading white head; great nose mix of sweet sugar and malts; chewy texture and has a fruity/hoppy kick to it; more relaxed on draft as the bottle’s freshness is in your face a little; not your standard BW, but i find this delicious; harsh ratings be damned, this is a great beer trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 9, 2008 Very disappointing given the possibilities of a barleywine aged in bourbon barrels. Pours a classic barleywine ruby copper color. The aroma, while weak, is strikingly hoppy, though - far more so than most barleywines I’ve tried. The taste is acidic, with notes of citrus rind, hops and a bit of the oak from the barrels. The taste of bourbon is disappointingly absent. It’s almost like a boozier version of BridgePort’s IPA with some extra caramel malt thrown in. Very, very ’meh’. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Apr 9, 2008 Bottle: Ruby color, light head and lacing. Nose of baby wipes, citrus, oak and more baby wipes. Gross. The citrus gives it a healthy pH level so at least it "feels" safe. The flavor is sharp like cough syrup. Weird cranberry and sweet malts; Christmas fruits and spices mulled in a bad place. VERY medicinal. Awful. Like salty ice cream. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Apr 5, 2008 Updated: Apr 7, 2008Appearance: Pours a reddish-brown body with a full, frothy, off-white head.
Smell: Weak aroma with just some tired, musty pale malts, a pinch of white pepper, and a handful of sawdust.
Taste: Pale maltiness with vague tastes of caramel and cinnamon spice. A few wooden popsicle sticks. Earthy bitterness. Light, nominal boubron characteristics are all insignificant. If it didn’t say "bourbon" on the label, you could easily miss it. Astringent, peppery finish.
Mouthfeel: A bit beyond medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: No thanks. Hardly even average. I dare say the barrel aging didn’t pay off one bit.
