The aroma was of rock candy and fresh sweet ripe fruit with a hint of new-mown lawn in the background. It had a medium body with lively carbonation and slightly sharp texture due, I am sure, to the carbonation. The flavor starts off with a very slight sweetness backed by the expected hop bitterness and is somewhat sharp. It smoothes out as it matures and has a long, slightly bitter finish. This beer has nice subtlety. TheBeerCollector (548), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 9, 2005 Sampled from bottle. Wow. What a nice session bitter! This ESB pours clear copper with a thin, but lasting off-white head and scattered lacing. Its aroma is subtle, but nice: hard candy, floral and spice hops and hints of caramel. The flavor is nicely bitter and wonderfully spiced with hops, but the malts are still dominant. Medium-bodied and well-carbonated (but not gassy at all). Bitterness lingers. I could drink this ESB all day. BeerRules (237), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 8, 2005 Nice effervescent amber color with a nice white head, good looking beer this one. Very nice sweet, hoppy, and caramel aroma. Taste is of dark fruits, sweet toasted malt, and hop bitterness balances the sweetness. Medium body and very creamy mouthfeel. I enjoyed this a lot, but I do feel the sweetness kind of takes precedence here. Overall great stuff. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2005 Cloudy amber color with a thin head. Aroma of musty and slightly moldy malt. Very earth-bound flavor of dirt, must, moss, etc. Lightly bitter finish. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 17/20 | Aug 26, 2005 Bottle. Tawny body with a thick dense head. Nose-very spicy for an ESB. Somewhat sweet. Nice nose. Taste-sweet. Reminds me of Early Grey tea. Notes of fresh cut grass, black pepper, hops, very, very crisp. Very enjoyable ESB that would be an ideal session beer. A little sweet, and that will cost it a point on palate. Brew4Dug (136), Houston, Texas, USA

Still, a quite quaffable example when compared to a majority of the English styles that I have sampled to date. rdeboer (3), USA does not count | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2005 Rapidly disappearing head but still nice carbonation remaining. Flavorfull with a lingering after taste. Pleasant.
