Bottle: The aroma has moderate amounts of caramel and fruit with some very faint floweriness. It pours a transparent amber with a small soapy off-white head. The flavor starts with moderate caramel with some light fruitiness in the background. The finish has a very mild flower bitterness. I’m told it’s not a fresh bottle which explains the muted hoppiness. bhensonb (4387), Woodland, California, USA

Off-white head that sticks around. Soft, luscious, fruity, malty with floral/fruity hop. The bitter balancing the malt does not seem to be pine or citrus. Fresh foral/fruity finish, hints of malt here at the end, mild bitter, and some possible citrus sour at the back of the mouth. Fantantastic. djd07 (755), Houston, Texas, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 11, 2007 Bottle. Poured amber with a thick lasting head. Faint malty aroma. Mild flavour that’s well balanced between malt and hops. A modest finish. This is a workaday unassuming bitter that is good on a warm day. MesandSim (5958), London, Greater London, England

Bottle at the Chrisfest. Dark golden, slightly hazy with just a slight off-white head. Citric, maybe orange aroma. Dry and hoppy with just a slight lick of malt. Lovely palate. Maybe a little boring but nice enough. johno (84), Galveston, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2007 Pours a deep, cloudy, dark copper, creamy off-white head; very attractive beer. Aroma is fruity, grapes, floral hop notes, some citrus, quite nice. Medium bodied and a bit creamy, pleasant bitterness that tapers in the finish, which yields a hint of sourness; very refreshing and quaffable (I mean that as a positive). Could be a bit more bitter, but I liked this. blueduk (118), Eugene, Oregon, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 21, 2007 Pours a clear coppery color with a smallish, creamy, off-white head.
The aroma is undeniably hoppy, but there’s a definite grainy, honeyish malt in the nose as well. Citrusy lemon and perfume from a tropical flower.
The flavor begins with a momentary presentation of sweet caramel, but this is quickly overtaken by a firm bitterness. The beer is clean through the finish with a drying acidity. A good everyday beer from a consistently strong brewery. murawski (158), USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Transparent golden copper appearance, with very little head at all. Medium carbonation. The aroma was nothing fabulous, a sweet/nutty kind of nose. Flavor was pretty good, but I expected more bitter hops (don’t forget what ESB stands for . . . Extra Special Bitter). Overall, this ESB is slightly above average.
