BridgePort Hop Czar Imperial IPA

22oz bottle brought back from Portland, OR. Thick, glowing orange brown color. Nice lasting quarter inch head. Seawater and hop aroma. The taste is full and delicious. Earthy hops and balanced maltiness perfectly balance themselves. Some hop syrup tastes, with a subdued dry, sandy mouthfeel. This is a World Class IIPA.

Bottle. Big, syrupy and sticky throughout. Sharp, biting celery and toothpaste/mint hops, along with an astringent green tea note make this double IPA somewhat unpleasant, brash, unrefined and needlessly aggressive. Passable.

Bottle. Pours a murky orange/brown with a thick, foamy off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma of sweet fruits (apricot, apple, pear). Flavor of slight fruitiness with a bitter fruity hoppy finish. Nice double IPA, not too heavy.

Bottle. Aroma hoppy with pine, melon, leafiness; citrus comes on stronger as it warms. Flavor well balanced with bitter, piny hoppiness and earthy, pumpernickel caramel malt. Notes of berries come and go, along with the nice melon tones, almost mango-like, but very definitely hoppy and melon-like. Bitter finish, oddly enough. Very nice.

Bottle (muled in from Portland) Pours out a cloudy gold topped with a light tan head. Aroma of grapefruit citrus and light malt. Tast the same citrus. Not a lot of power for a Double IPA. Pretty thin for me.

Aroma – Huge hops aroma with good malt backing.
Appearance – Light amber in color, Clear with a light head.
Flavor – Strong IPA aroma with a good malt balance. Good grapefruit and earthy flavors.
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel, Good texture with a dry IPA finish.
Overall – A very tasty IPA this was one of the better IPA’s not so over the top that it was too strong.

Pours deep mildly hazy gold with copper core and near tan head. The aroma has a sting of alcohol before earthy and pine hoppiness take over with moderate layers of maltiness. The taste begins and ends with full citrus, grapefruit and pine hop bitterness that moves into mild sweet hop flavors, malt and some earthiness in the back. This is nice but not chewy and rich enough to being a IIPA. Very nice IPA though.

The last beer shared by wolf in our IPA/DIPA tasting. Light red in color, decent head. The aroma was a grapefruit, sweet aroma. Taste has a nice spiceyness to it that seperated from most DIPA’s. It still has the typical IPA characteristics to it though. Nice hop bite, which was piney and citrusy. Medium texture and carbonation. I cant understand why it has such a low style score??? Different but good, thanks for sharing alot of good beers tonight wolf!
