This year’s they told me is a base recipe based on the original Blue Heron from the 1980s. Dark copper-chestnut body with a lavish creamy off-white head. Floral, peppery, spicy, hops nose with chewy mildly caramel underpinning. Waves of hops approach the palate. Start with a bitter tongue lashing and unfurls a flowery Centennial bouquet. Quite complex for a hoppy beer. Earthy grassiness, sugary acidic bite and a finish of biscuity grains and lingering bitter nuttiness and piquant resinous spice. cathcacr (590), Portland, Oregon, USA

Taste is bitter pine citrus with a strong malt backing. Hops win the flavor battle. Plenty of interesting flavors seperate this from most West Coast big beers. I will be having this again. Poured amber with an off-white head that was thin and diminished fast. Fresh hops on the nose. Really smooth and hearty, refreshingly hoppy and a little malt for balancing. Like liquid, hoppy bread; really delicious. leeburg (149), Juneau, Alaska, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 26, 2009 Good experience with this bottle at BridgePort. Very sweet and floral nose; citrus, candy sugar, frosting. Maltiness gave balance to an otherwise fresh, hoppy taste sequence. Lightly bitter but mostly refreshing. scrizzz (1323), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 25, 2008 Fresh post-rainstorm aroma with some spearmint. Amber color, slight haze, thick and dense persistent head. Green wood character to the hops which are everywhere. There’s some caramel and hazelnut to the malt. The earthy hops linger with a smoky edge, this may be my favorite wet hopped beer of the season. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

Looks to be well carbonated. Nose is nice - grapefruit and floral aromas, some grass and a light toasted malt. Resiny flavor, grapefruit rind and light maltiness. Some woody notes come through late, as a light burn is deep in the throat - is it the hops or alcohol? Dunno. This is damn tasty! Bitter, dry, lingering grapefruit rind finish. Excellent webby lace.
